At least 18 people have been killed and tens of thousands of people have been ordered to leave parts of Australia's eastern coastline, as raging bushfires continue unabated.

The south coast of New South Wales will experience extreme danger from fires this weekend, with temperatures forecast to pass 40C (104F).

You have to hand it to Australians, they are certainly straight talkers and don't mince their words.

I hope that the weather changes asap, as that would be a massive help.

Very sad for all those who have lost loved ones or have seen their homes and livelihoods go up in smoke.

Kind of hard to celebrate the new year when this is happening. It must be terrifying!

As the fire stalked the east coast of Australia on Tuesday, the daytime sky turned inky black, then blood red. Emergency sirens wailed, followed by the thunder of gas explosions. Thousands of residents fled their homes and huddled near the shore. There was nowhere else to go.

I suspect the individuals quoted would have given him a similar reception no matter what the circumstance of his visit.

Hmmm, or perhaps, given the circumstances, they’re a tad irked about this:

Twenty-three former fire and emergency leaders say they tried for months to warn Prime Minister Scott Morrison that Australia needed more water-bombers to tackle bigger, faster and hotter bushfires.

That, and the fact that Scotty from Marketing has no real empathy, because this is all God’s will, right?

Meanwhile, last week I drove down the gorgeous Princes Hwy from Sydney to Melbourne, and just about that whole route is now on fire, and the tiny town of Mogo where I stopped and chatted with lovely locals is half gone.

They’re trying to get 100,000 people out now.

Who knows what’s coming tomorrow.

I have good firends in Murrumbucca, about 60 miles south of Canberra. Their automobiles have been covered with ash for the last three days, no use to wash it off since it's still falling, and the day looks like sunset and the nights don't get dark. Below is are pictures she posted from two o'clock Wednesday afternoon their time.

She just posted and said they are packing. Their home is in a corridor predicted to burn today. They will lose their ranch house, their outbuildings, their equipment, their sheep and other livestock, and everything that won't fit into a van. Her husband is moving logs into the river so they will have something to burn , because likely there will not be any other wood available for the -10 degree winter.

This fire so far is six times the size of the fires in California last year.

The Green People caused these fires. They have worked very hard to prevent the management of the outback. This is the same problem we see in California.

Aren't many of these arson fires, just like in California?

I know that Morrison is not popular, then again most politicians are a pathetic waste of space, so what's new.

In the UK, the Labour Party had similar responses on doorsteps in relation to the general election last month, and managed their worst result since 1935.

80% of these fires were the result of arson, not natural causes.
