Maybe, but it's suddenly become a disinformation virus. How many millions of people are now worried that they will have less oxygen to breath because of fires in the Amazon?

How does this relate to my post that we are all connected and what happens to one happens to us all?

No. People with little or no real understanding of how global ecosystems work (and that's most people) hear someone on TV say that the Amazon produces 20% of the world's oxygen and it's being destroyed -- what will they think?

LOL! You repeat the myth in a thread debunking the myth... bold move Cotton!

oh oh oh -- the guy that doesn't like the 'lungs of the planet' phrase also says that the Amazon deforestation is responsible for 10% of greenhouse emissions.

So while that particular phrase can be debated -- it is very clear that this guy and his fans still think that the Amazon is an important part of our planet and managing the farmers needs with the environment is important.

critic of the 'lungs' of the world phrase has a web site -- this is one of its goals

Climate change, forest loss, and the global shortage of new arable land are among the most urgent challenges that humanity is facing. The ability of human societies to meet these inter-connected challenges with effective, large-scale solutions over the next 10 to 20 years will influence the levels of human suffering through hunger and malnutrition and the capacity of the Earth to sustain life for centuries to come.
