The cost to American tax payers to pay for the families and children at the detention centers cost over 5 million per day. There is no end in sight. Your retirement checks, your VA pension checks and etc....your SS pensions, and etc...the govt will be coming for them. Americans have no say about the fact that they are footing the border crisis bills. Which will soon be in the billions. Taxpayers also foot the bill for emergency room care, prenatal care..costing bilions more for illegals already in the USA. Why cant we bring back mental institutions for our own America citizens? A place where they can live long term and be treated 24/7. Instead of throwing Them in jails and onto the streets? Stupid ass Reagan shut them all down back in the 80"s. Now we got tens of thousands of severely mental ill people living in squalor in the streets howling at the moon wearing the same clothes for year's. I see them every day in Seattle...talking to themselves, laughing, no shoes on their feet, dirty, like they have not showered in months. Totally engulfed in pure lunacy. These are not drug addicts. These are schizophrenics, bipolar types and etc. These are the severely mentally ill that are citizens and we owe it to them to provide care to them. I believe we need to bring back asylums. Large mental institutions. But instead of funding these places the govt uses our money for various illegal aliens needs, They come first. What the f**k is wrong with the American govt? And why do citizens allow the govt to spend their tax dollars anyway they see fit?

Mental institutions do not help and more often than not have the opposite effect. They are more like prisons than hospitals and subject to abuse such as poor living conditions, lack of hygiene, physical and sexual abuse, overcrowding and patients starved to death. They are the reason why there was a massive closure of these institutions. After the US closed these institutions, they saved the money as running the mental institutions was very expensive, but the government did little to spend on habilitation of those from institutions, it was spent on other projects away from mental health.

Other countries had these type of institutions and today have background checks and mental health community support teams supported by local low and medium secure units, as well as high security hospitals for those who are a real danger to society due to their illness.

Most of the individuals in the large asylum type institutions had conditions that ranged from learning disabilities right through to dementia, with schizophrenia, bipolar and a multitude of other conditions thrown in.

Today with better drugs and community support, and more community residential settings, the vast majority of people who were once housed in these institutions can live perfenctly well in society.

Illegal aliens and the mentally ill both contribute to the homeless numbers. We need to address both issues. (all 3 actually).
