Random thought re the "only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun" excuse for avoiding sensible gun reform.
If it is so easy to stop a bad guy with another gun, you'd think the "good guys with guns" could have at least shot the tires out of this guy's car and then truck before he continued on his killing road rampage.

Amazing! None of the articles mention the words “Black Shooter” and none of the articles have the words “Mass Shooter” at a High School Football Stadium full of kids. On the other hand ... every article about the Midland Odessa shooting at a DPS Traffic stop use “White Shooter” and Mass Shooting”.
Why do we think there is so much difference between these 2 events? Why are the Media and the Politicians all about one event and totally ignoring the other event?

I was on the freeway 2 days before the traffic stop shooting. Speed limit is 65 miles per hour. Nobody knew what was happening. I don’t carry a gun, but I would think it would be difficult to shoot while driving and some idiot fires at your vehicle. Perhaps you experts think it could be done?
The amount of guns owned by citizens wouldn't have mattered in this case. I'm sure some of the people on the highway and bi-ways did have weapons. However, the guy was shooting from a moving vehicle. Unless you knew he was coming up on you, forget it.
Humans are smart primate. The next mass shooters will make sure they follow the best way to kill the most people possible. Perhaps if all citizens had shoulder mounted TOW missiles we could stop some of this madness...and create a new NRA profit center so they might not file bankruptcy.

Well, at least they mentioned "Alabama" - a state which loves guns. When kids are brought up in gun culture - what do you know? They follow gun culture...or at least some of them.

You are comparing apples and oranges.
In the first case -- -Odeassa -- the police have not identified the shooter by name and the only information the press has is that he was white and 30. If they had been given a name they might have just given the name.
We have a name for the second shooter and a mug shot-- the 17 year old kid.
So the press reports all they know so far is the victim is a 30 year old white man....the 17 year old kid's name is out there and we can see he is black.
Dallas Police said a group of gun rights activists with AR-15 weapons complicated the 2016 LE response to the mobile shooter who used one to kill 5 officers.
The armed ran for their lives with everyone else and in doing so caused many to perceive they were being chased by an active shooter. LE issued photos of some of the armed who were wanted for questioning. Most turned themselves in and were cleared.
Imagine if some of the activists had instead chose to fire back at others firing back.
It is nearly impossible to distinguish a good vs bad guy with a gun in the middle of chaos.
Most armed people seek to protect themselves, not play Rambo.
The people of Texas are apparently ok with mass shootings. They are just an unintended and unfortunate consequence of the right to easy access to many and all kinds of guns.
Moreover, the Fake News just LOVES that this latest (Odessa) shooting was (allegedly) carried out by a "white male" so they can push their sick divisive narrative.
Meanwhile, person't name/picture has not been released. I wouldn't be surprised if said perp is actually "Hispanic" - many times "Hispanics" are put in with whites in crime statistics to make whites look worse.
