They are trying to change public opinion on the peoples right to own guns...with each new mass shooting, more and more people change their opinion and agree that tough new gun laws need to be created.

Personally I think one of the ways to reduce these incidents is to not give the people their 15minutes fame. That said, it's a tricky deal because people do want to know who is doing this stuff.
