Sneaking into someone's home late at night, especially if they aren't expecting company? To you that may be paranoia, to be frightened by the experience. To me it would be a perfectly natural response, and no I didn't keep a loaded gun in my night stand.
You surprise someone by ringing the door bell. There are man ways to surprise someone without sneaking into their home late at night.

When you are in your home, it's always customary to announce your presence by name and honorific, in cases where the home guards are not present for any reason, and then formally asking for permission before opening the door and then thereby entering. All this could have been prevented.
