The DA in Baltimore did this also recently. I hope the trend continues.

More prosecutors need to exercise nullification and simply choose not to charge these cases.

More juries need to exercise nullification if the case is just someone possessing a plant.

Opium comes from a plant. Cocaine comes from a plant.

Well I was referring to cannabis specifically but I don’t think any plants should be illegal.

I don't support legalization of marijuana at all, but also don't support the criminalization of simple possession and personal use/sale. Thus, all in all, I'm on board with this use of prosecutorial discretion.

Ricin comes from a plant.

They have been doing this [no arrests for small amounts, even of heroin] in Seattle and environs for some time. The results have not been pretty.

So does caffeine and nicotine.

Most people against marijuana legalization are against it because of social stigma and religious beliefs. There is no other reason to lock people up and ruin people's lives over this plant other than that. I cannot wait until the fundamentalist Christian Right is no longer the dominant cultural and political force in our country and we can just legalize it.

I do, one causes psychosis, the other causes monstrous dependency, and the last amps up your metabolism plus it causes withdrawals.

It causes psychosis. Reason enough to keep it as a schedule 1 narcotic.

Waiting for the “yeah, but alcohol” justification.

The "but alcohol" excuse is a mess. The fact that one bad thing is legal doesn't justify making another bad thing illegal.

Note, I agree that marijuana has been linked to psychosis in some, but this hasn't been the case for others. Still, I note that there are various other negative health implications of marijuana intake, which is why I support decriminalization as opposed to legalization for personal use.

Your fetish is a mechanical device made to rip living tissue apart.

Mine is a plant that makes you feel more compassionate toward other humans and all living beings.

Who is more full of **** on this issue?
