Assuming the autist doesn't have a complex history of being institutionalized

So yes or no and why?

Autism is a spectrum....how autistic are we talking?

Like Asperger’s level....or like a complete unsocialized, non-verbalizing shut-in?

Well let's go with the former since I exemplified that we're assuming the person has not been institutionalized by any mental health facilities

No one with mental issues should have a firearm. That being said, how is that to be determined ? Current laws state one has to be adjudicated legally with mental issues. That leaves the door open to a whole host of other issues that never make it to that point.

That is why, I feel the HIPA laws should be relaxed and certain things shared with the NICS so that the FFL can make the decision on the transfer.

Sure. Because buying or possesing a gun isn't a crime nor is being autistic.

On what grounds should they be denied?

Yes, I’d probably let myself (and do) own a gun.

The fact that most people fear not knowing a moment of "acting out"?

I have Asperger's but I make a point to never own a job. However, if I did, it would be a revolver.
