Many just want a free meal. Good idea for an app, but bad execution. Thought Bumble was a little better.
What hypocrisy? Attractive males take on all women available to them. Unattractive women think they're too good to date any male that isn't exceptionally attractive. Obviously a percentage of males who are exceptionally attractive enough can't and wouldn't settle down with all the average and unattractive females, they're just side pieces.

I don't know why you would think that only women are guilty of this.

Thing is even attractive women are coming down off their high horses and dealing with the real. In other words going with what they can get, rather than waiting around hoping for Prince Charming to come along riding that white horse.
Just like those two from Sex and The City who ended up with "downgraded" guys. One married a bartender, and the other after screwing up her marriage with an attractive, successful and wealthy WASP doctor, ended up with a squat, round not so great looking Jewish attorney.
A woman's life is compromised day she is born; and as she goes through life things become a series of same.
At some point in her twenties or thirties any unmarried woman who wants a husband or LT relationship sits herself down and surveys lay of land. OTOH she isn't getting any younger and on the other the pools she's been fishing in are coming up empty. That is when many start giving guys they previously passed over a second look.

It's also the personality man.
Be more positive and don't let little things get to you. Smile more and just talk about anything. There's no magic words.
And it's more than just being nice. Being nice is basically a default setting. No reward should be expected for being polite. It's how you carry yourself.
If your carrying the idea of resentment towards others, women can sense that and they back away. Only person you might attract is someone equally as toxic.
What pathetic excuse for a man needs to be enticed to get out of the basement? If today's young men feel like that, no wonder the young women are giving up on them.
Saint-Ex put it well. "To be a man is, precisely, to be responsible. It is to feel shame at the sight of what seems to be unmerited misery. It is to take pride in a victory won by one's comrades. It is to feel, when setting one's stone, that one is contributing to the building of the world."
If they put down the controller and go contribute to the building of the world, young women will seek them out - as equals. And no one has to entice the other into becoming an adult human being. It's the damn baseline.
What things can young women give to young men who left the basement? Not much except sex. Why has liberation super charged female materialism? It is not like people starving on the streets yet female materialism is off the charts compared to older generations. To score with females a man must engage in materialistic pursuits, not for survival but to collect "credits" to impress females, to engage in materialistic pursuits men must destroy the world more and more. That is not a winning reproduction strategy speaking of our specie as a whole.

Because only women can pull it off. If exceptionally attractive females were willing to date most any male like exceptionally attractive males are willing to hook up with most any female, then it'd be a whole different story.

Is that really how it works? I’m 50 years old, and happily married since before tinder existed, so I may be a little naive when it comes to this, but it seems to me that the attractive males probably aren’t swiping in the right direction for the unattractive females. Doesn’t this force the unattractive females to lower their expectations and keep swiping down the ladder until they get a hit?
