I wonder if one reason you like him is that I gather he was a lower-key black leader who didn't directly threaten the status quo - he was not loudly demanding voting rights, for instance.

Black Americans are and have always been self-reliant and resilient. They survived when whites burned down Black Wall Street, terrorized their families in the night, raped their women and daughters and lynched their fathers and sons. Somehow, through it all, they managed to fight for civil rights and make it possible for their children to be successful and for other minorities to come here and do the same. Today Black Americans continue to make strides.

Your post is incredibly clueless.

Kind of the other way around. It was W.E.B. DuBois who spoke of the "talented tenth." Washington spoke more of a strategy for the other 90%.

But both men were correct and not really in conflict (although, like today, other political forces placed them into conflict).

Like an axe depend on a heavy head behind the sharpened blade to cut into dense wood, the black American community needed and still needs the sharp "talented tenth" as the cutting edge with the weight of a trained, industrial mass pushing it forward.

I rarely agree with you but I agree on this one. I’m white and don’t give a crap who blacks prefer as a leader. it’s none of my business.

Not sure why white conservatives and random conservatives of color are so obsessed with the idea of black leaders.

Today blacks in the U.S. are driven and encourage each other - whether African-American, African, Caribbean, Latino... There are simply tons of go-getters. There are plenty black professionals, power couples, world travelers etc.

Meanwhile people like you think people are looking for leaders...LOLOL. If you want to find “leaders,” then go find the black professional organizations and see their contributions.

Squelching speech on the basis of skin color? It's hard to think of a better example that fits the definition of "racism."

We've got Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Those are the two generally recognized as 'black leaders' by the MSM.
