The man was brilliant ahead his of time. Believed blacks could achieve equality by being self reliant. And he was right because in the end no matter what color you are “Money Talks”. Unfortunately history shows the black community chose a different path by following a certain party and leaders like the community agitator. I wonder what Washington would have thought if he could have seen the future.

Quote:
Washington believed that the best interests of black people in the post-Reconstruction era could be realized through education in the crafts and industrial skills and the cultivation of the virtues of patience, enterprise, and thrift. He urged his fellow blacks, most of whom were impoverished and illiterate farm labourers, to temporarily abandon their efforts to win full civil rights and political power and instead to cultivate their industrial and farming skills so as to attain economic security. Blacks would thus accept segregation and discrimination, but their eventual acquisition of wealth and culture would gradually win for them the respect and acceptance of the white community. This would break down the divisions between the two races and lead to equal citizenship for blacks in the end.

The principles are important. Not the personalities.

Studied Booker T, great man. There are plenty of black folk today that follow his advice...too bad virtually none of them are in the political realm.

No greater injury can be done to any youth than to let him feel that because he belongs to this or that race he will be advanced in life regardless of his own merits or efforts.

Character, not circumstances, makes the man.

Nothing ever comes to one, that is worth having, except as a result of hard work.

Associate yourself with people of good quality, for it is better to be alone than in bad company.

We do not want the men of another color for our brothers-in-law, but we do want them for our brothers.

There is no power on earth that can neutralize the influence of a high, simple and useful life.

Booker T Washington

I think he was obviously a quite intelligent man, with high moral character, and a strong work ethic. Obviously, he was a conservative.

LOL.

Just read a book, huh?

You know, Malcolm X said the same thing.

I don't know if you've noticed, but most black Americans are doing fine.

Actually bot are important. A person can have great ideas but they might have a personality needed to help implement said ideas that is horrible!

If one of your principles is to "implement" something (implying involuntary participation) I'd say that's not a principle I'd agree with.

Yes... but that simply wasn't possible for more than a small fraction of the black population, the "talented tenth".
