As I understand it, the most common number that people discuss when talking about UBI is $1000 a month for everyone in the country (including children?). That would replace Food Stamps which are $192 a month and most other forms of aid.

But I looked at the revenue of the federal government for 2018 which was $3,329,904 million. The population is 329.6 million. Keep in mind that this revenue from income tax, business, tax, plus every other source of income that the federal government has.

But when I divide those two numbers I get $10,102.86 per year or $841.91 per month per individual.

So doesn't it seem strange that at present the government is collecting $841.91 per month per individual and now talking about giving away $1000 per month per individual?

That is a change in finance that is so big that it boggles the mind.

It is the idiotic idea of a political party that has lost its ****ing mind. Your math is admirable, but all you have to say is that we are already 22 trillion in debt.

UBI, universal healthcare, even for illegals, student loan forgiveness, green new deal...who the hell is going to pay for all of this?

If you are voting Democrat, you are intentionally trying to destroy this country, and are a traitor.

Like as if a liberal cares if it makes sense or not.

Math doesnt matter to liberals. They love the idea and not the outcome, thats why Venezuela, Cuba and the Soviet Union all worked well and lived to its promises.

The only good thing I can think of is UBI would probably cause a massive spike in adoptions and empty out orphanages. $1000 tax free per kid per month would be a lot of cash in many parts of the country.

The problem with UBI is that it does not level the field. $1000 per month in NYC or Los Angeles is a lot less than $1000 in most of the USA outside the big coastal metro areas. It would take away the incentive to work and to strive for education and self-improvement, for a family of 4 or 5 people in a low cost of living area. Why work or look for work when $4-5K (tax free) drops onto your front door every month?

Would UBI really work for the elderly, the disabled or for the poor?

At least in Yang's proposal, only adults get the UBI.

Only people 18 or older would get the UBI.

It works for me.

Instead of giving that money to Banks, Corps and Special Interest Groups that just hide it offshore, give it to the American people who will spend it at the local grocery store.

Whats so hard about that?

Kind of an alien issue that many are understandably uncomfortable with.

"Get payed for existing?? That's absurd!".

It should be enough to keep from starving, but not enough to live off and do nothing.

Enough to help you if you become homeless. No need to beg, get food, clean and while you apply for a job, you at least have some money to get a bite and a motel room til' you can get back on your feet.

So it's not easy street, but your not damned to a life of homelessness..
