Russia is a good example of the suppression of free speech as are several other countries, free speech is more important to a democracy.

A better question might be:

Which resulted in more deaths, an armed or unarmed population?

Default Which is more dangerous, speech or a gun?

Neither are dangerous without actions. I've said a lots of dumb/mean things, owned a gun for many years, but never hurt anyone.

Good point. Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Hitler, and dictators throughout history have been able to kill tens of millions of UNARMED, defenseless people.

I'm fairly certain Stalin personally shot a few people, but again, it was his rhetoric that was ultimately responsible for millions of his own countrymen that would die.
Mao killed more people (55 million) than anybody in the history of the world and I doubt he ever shot anybody.

Wow. Such ignorance. Try not paying your taxes and see what happens.

Maybe what you meant to say is "I have lived in 4 countries, but never been in a situation where the government actually pointed a gun at me to control me."

But words cause actions. Just ask the decendents of the 55 million killed by Mao's words.

It must be speech, because Trump calls reporters the enemy of the people.
