The hatred, violence and animosity being spoken by our elected government officials, being reported on the news and causing the US to be divided, along with families and friends, I believe speech if the most dangerous weapon today. The news sensationalizes mass shootings and promotes the hatred which incites people to copy and promote the actions of others.

Since our guns don't have a life of their own, they're not a danger to anyone right now.

But you already knew that.

The combination of words and a gun are more dangerous than the sum of their parts.

In Rwanda, hundreds of thousands died due to the combination of speech and machetes.

So sppech with guns can be bad, and speech with machetes can be bad. What's common to both? Speech.

Which is more dangerous, speech or a gun?

False dilemma! IMHO.

I'm not sure what the OP's intent is here. The phrasing of the OP is off to me, unless of course he intended it that way.

The Title should have been "Which is more powerful, speech or a gun?"

Speech is much more powerful in the longer run, bigger picture.

Speech can enslave or it can free. A gun doesn't have that power, not long term.

While a gun can do a lot of damage by it's self, a speech can motivate many to far more damage then a single person with a gun can do.
