Trump is destroying any trust in US Government. He has made the Executive branch a joke. Now he has done his best to undermine the FBI and now NOAA. He has compromised national security and brought under question almost every aspect of US government. If our country survives him it will be a miracle.

The worst administration was Clinton and the Spotted Owl issue. I was involved in that one. The Clinton Administration "muzzeled" the scientist that disagreed with Administration policy. They oversaw the selection of mid-level Forest Service positions to make sure that promoted employees followed Clinton Administration policy.

Not sure what is going on today with Trump, but the Democrats have always been more serious about making sure civil service employees toed the "company line".

In the end, though, as a civil service employee you work for the President. Quit or follow Administration policy....be it Clinton, Bush, Obama or Trump.
No administration should be altering science for the president, I could care less if it were Clinton or Trump.

you're about 5 years late to the party. All trust in the US government was lost when Obama told 300 million people they could keep their healthcare plan.

49 former NASA scientists and astronauts sent a letter to NASA Administrator Charles Bolden last week admonishing the agency for it's role in advocating a high degree of certainty that man-made CO2 is a major cause of climate change while neglecting empirical evidence that calls the theory into question.

As former NASA employees, we feel that NASA's advocacy of an extreme position, prior to a thorough study of the possible overwhelming impact of natural climate drivers is inappropriate.
Maybe you could put some names on your archive that you trotted out on Obama, by the way Obama doesn't control think tanks and universities.

Do you have any opinion on the claims of firing NWS employees other than "but Obama".

This is crazy. LITERALLY telling scientists to be quiet and not publicly contradict a dumbass like Trump, with no expertise whatsoever, talking about hurricanes. For Christ's sake, Trump has said multiple times he's never heard of a Category 5.

But what's worse is the spineless republicans in congress, who sit in silence and let this idiot in the WH say whatever he wants, simply because he's got an (R) next to his name.

If a dem had said or done half of what Trump does, the prominent GOP politicians who sit silently for Trump would be jumping on their desks to scream about it.

Party over country has spread like a disease across the entire GOP.

Disagreeing with the President is NOT "just cause".
I worked under administrations since Nixon....did miss Ford, as I was in the private sector at that time.

Since Clinton, my agency got annual reminders about what we could and could NOT talk about with the American people. Then those reminders were sent down to Civil Service covered employees.

Disagreeing with the President in your official position is just cause. It might be hard to fire a Civil Service employee, but a transfer to the middle of somewhere in a position with no responsibility is definitely in your future.

The worst part is not the external dissent. I am fine with that. You work for the President....and as much as I thought President Clinton was clueless on science issues....I kept my mouth shut externally.

It is the internal "censorship" that is awful. Under Clinton, those scientists that disagreed with "accepted' views were offered early retirement.

It did not serve the Spotted Owl well. The Clinton Forest Plan resulted in 30,000 jobs lost, and almost half a million people affected. BUT, the worse part the science was flawed and disssenting opinions were ignored....so the Spotted Owl is headed for extinction.

It was a two-fer in Federal Land Management Policy.....destroy the timber industry and the Spotted Owl both!!! Really, it would have been simpler to pick one or the other....at least we would have had owls or functioning rural communities.
