I read this book in almost record time for me reading a 270 page book. The book is absolutely fantastic! If true (more on this qualification bellow) the West is faced with some horrifying problems. The first two-thirds of the book reads like a real-life Stephen King novel; the world of some Muslim "families" is one of violence and extreme sexual perversion. Love is replaced by domination and hatred. Contact with the outside world is kept strictly limited. Any violation of the strictures results in severe beatings, and sometimes rape. The subject of the book was regularly raped from age six until 16, when she fled.
Why did she flee? She fled from an arranged and forced marriage to a distant relative in Pakistan. Her family did not let her be. At one point her father located her. He headed up a 40 member gang of knife- and hammer-wielding assailants. I won't spoil how she avoided being killed (spoiler alert). But the world she fled to was infinitely kinder, more loving and fairer.
But back to the topic. At school, when Child Protective Services got involved after she was beaten by her father, they used a social worker from "the community." He immediately protected the family's "honor" by ratting the girl out, resulting in another severe beating. The question is, why, in a free country, are not the victims of these sick criminals like the father not protected? Why no prosecutions? The existence of no-go zones where the law's writ does not run is a cancer.

Tens of thousands - 100's of millions of dollars buying land in various states. Abusing the welfare system, multiple wives and abuse of most ALL involved.

For whatever reason the "live and let live" spirit in American means this is all OK.
We once had a Pakistani family living down the street from us. The daughter was in her early 20s. We would often see her walking down the street. When she saw us she would always smile and wave and I would wave back and say "hello' to her. One day, the police were at their house. Two days later we saw in a local newspaper that she was missing. Apparently, she walked to work and one day she didn't show up. Later she called her family on a throw away phone to tell them she loved them. Eventually, she returned home. After that, we never saw her again. I figured she ran off because they were going to send her to Pakistan for an arranged marriage. It saddened me that she returned home knowing what would happen (if my feeling was correct).
When our daughter was in middle school, one of her classmates, who was Pakistani, showed up in school wearing an engagement ring. She told everybody that she was engaged to a man in Pakistan. The next year, the family sold their halal store and were gone from the community. My gut feeling was that they all went back to Pakistan and forced her into a marriage. I felt so bad for the girl. She had been in school with our daughter since kindergarten. Back then it was clear that her family wasn't taking very good care of her and her 2 sisters. In kindergarten, all her baby teeth were rotten. Eventually, she got to a dentist. I used to volunteer in school. In the second grade, she showed that she was a good writer and would write long stories. I used to tell her that she did a really good job. One day, when I said that to her, she smiled shlyly and said to me "I like when you tell me that." I worked in the local library which was near their family's halal store. They used to send their daughters to the library where they would stay until closing time. She always hated to leave.
She now is in her early 30s. I often wonder what her life is like as it saddened me to see what was done to her, and no doubt, her sisters, too.
There was another Pakistani family in our neighborhood who also shipped their daughters off to Pakistan for arranged marriages.
Where I live now, there is a woman who covers from head-to-toe with only her eyes showing. She won't talk to anyone. When the staff at the front desk greets her when she comes in the building, she ignores them. I guess she's not allowed to talk to anyone even to say "hello"
Honestly, it disgusts me when these people refuse to assimilate and embrace Western culture. Why come here if you hate the culture so much? It's heartbreaking to see girls who were forced into arranged marriages and sent to live in a third world country.

Vast numbers of children are abused by their parents, extended families, the foster care system, religions and on and on and on.
Just like everything else...until the crime is BOTH committed and apprehended...and, then, until the conviction is gotten...it means nothing.
Warren Jeffs is still running his kingdoms from prison. AND, to a normal person like you and I almost everyone involved is being abused....left with 4th grade educations so they have no options in life, etc. etc.

I think the adults chose to come to a free country. That should mean they've freed their female family members. Any other view would validate the Dred Scott decision.

Here's the thing...what you may not realize is that a lot of "culture" you support looks (and IS) just as weird or worse than what you point to.......

After the social worker visit resulting in more beatings, she should have gone to the police.
