1. Every blatantly and intentionally untrue statement that could be proven to be untrue about an opponent or issue would have a serious fine -- like $500 for an individual and $10,000 for a major newspaper. (Although, granted, this would be difficult to prove unless, for example, Candidate A said that Candidate B has a tattoo of Hitler on his or her hip -- or that Candidate B was convicted of animal cruelty for having sex with a koala)

2. In televised debates, if someone interrupts while an opponent is speaking, that person would be fined at least a thousand dollars, which would be taken out of his or her personal banking account.

Take away power from the federal government and return it to state and local authorities.

Pretending that the contentious political climate will be resolved with government regulation is utterly foolish. Whoever is in power will bend those regulations in their favor. The only reasonable solution is to de-concentrate power.

The problem exists at state and local levels too though.

My idea:
No legislation moves forward without some minimal level of bipartisan support. Force compromise.

Delete lobbyists.

Set term limits.

Have a campaign finance reform.

Make it a law to vote (like paying your taxes).

Let everyone vote on their phone.

Make everyones vote count and do away with the electoral college.

With the second point, that could bankrupt a politician quite quickly!

the hysterical mainstream media, who are really tabloid journalists, pushing conspiracy theories, trump is literally hitler, and the country is full of the Klan are making some people have severe political anxiety.

If journalism returns to journalism things would change. unfortunately, the media has no incentive to change their strategy. 24/7 trump-bad-orange-man-hitler is making them lots and lots of money.

Make 80 be the minimum age to run. So no more 50 year politicians.

A profound waste of time. Divert the discussion to sports, the weather or gardening. I don't care if people believe in unicorns or sky saviors, just leave me alone. It is easier to change someone's eye color than their political beliefs.
