Assuming that the candidate would be moderate and be a part of a major party, could that POTUS candidate win on that message? Those of us who remember pre 9-11 sure do miss it! Hint-I’m at the airport today with carry-ons and drug sniffing dogs. It’s such an ordeal to fly these days!

Who would be foolish enough to believe that a president would have the power to undo all that's been done?

Not I.

The country lost a bit of innocence on Sept. 11th it also lost a lot more on Dec. 7th, we never went back to pre Dec 7th and we will never go back pre Sept. 11th. Its like believing you can go back to the innocence of childhood. You cannot unsee what has been seen.

Hmmmm,

this reminds me of the 90s when I would go to the airport and deliberately go to the trunk, open it, throw my Swiss Army knife in, and close the trunk. Once my mother asked me why I did that. "I never walk into a secure area with a pocket knife." Her reply was, "I never heard of anything so ridiculous!"........

...........well, we aren't laughing now, are we?

This is what bugs me about how people act about 9-11, that to so many people, terrorism started on that day, that they will never forget......well, where was all this memory in the decades before, such as for the Marine Barracks?

That maybe if we took things a little bit more seriously then and not just took it as "well, that's over there,"we would not have lost as many.

The POTUS may not have the power to completely dismantle the TSA, but through Exec order could LOOSEN the onerous procedure, namely eliminating the sniffing dogs, the 3 oz rule and removal of shoes and eliminating all of the TSA taxes (oops, I mean “fees”). That would be a good start. When all of this started, the sheeple public gladly obliged in the name of security. The govt then Expanded it to include drug possession, which was not the original intent. Now, it’s outright harassment when flying. I normally check bags, so haven’t gone through some of this before since I forgot what they would let me carry on. I don’t do pot, but I don’t see anything wrong with those who wish to enjoy.

Rand Paul didn’t do too well in the 2016 primaries.

I think your title may have confused me. You're talking about the TSA here but we've lost a lot of civil liberties - and I thought that's what you were talking about based on the thread title where you reference pre-9/11 freedoms.

Just the TSA is another story. Personally, I think we need some kind of security measures at our airports or it leaves us vulnerable. I just don't think the government should be in charge of it.

The Patriot Act was about as unpatriotic as you could get. The law is still there that would let the government know what books you read and what movies you watch, if they wanted to enforce it. It only failed because libraries refused to keep track. Just imagine, couple that with the "red flag" laws and see what they could do to you.

No way. The GOP created the Patriot Act and also voted to extend it...Dems had to fight to lighten it up a bit.

Law and Order. Or, to quote my GOP Friends "I'm not doing anything wrong so what do I care?"

No kidding...I heard this over and over and almost never from the Left.

Look at Trump with his dictatorial approach. 40% of Americans and 90% of Republicans love it.
