I guess it ended up exactly like people said - they ranted against Obama, but couldn't put together anything themselves.

In 2019 Senate, Debates Are Few, Key Votes Are Few
McConnell Promised to End Senate Gridlock. Instead, Republicans Are Stuck in Neutral.

By Sheryl Gay Stolberg

The Republican-led Senate limped out of Washington this week after the fewest legislative debates of any in recent memory, without floor votes on issues that both parties view as urgent: the high cost of prescription drugs, a broken immigration system and crumbling infrastructure. The number of Senate roll call votes on amendments — a key indicator of whether lawmakers are engaged in free and open debate — plummeted to only 18 this year, according to a review of congressional data. During the same time period in the 10 previous Congresses, senators took anywhere from 34 to 231 amendment votes...

But the Senate’s legislative record on domestic issues has been so thin that a number of Republicans were left grasping for words when asked to name the chamber’s most significant legislative achievement this year.

I completely agree, as a conservative. I am not a registered Republican though, quit the party in disgust back when 'W' was in. They (R) had both the senate and house for 2 years (2016 -2018) and did pretty much nothing. Very frustrating. At least the Dems pull together and get something done, once in a while....

The Republican failure to address skyrocketing Health Care costs over the past three years has been pretty damning. Where is this "much better" solution Trump keeps talking about? Getting that system fixed should be a national priority. It's a drain on our economy.

I hope you still vote, though? Yes, I have Republican friends who've started voting for Dems. And I hope in the near future that the GOP will find its footing again.

All the Republicans would have to do to get my vote back is live up to their supposed conservative values. End deficit spending(especially in a good economy). Eliminate the scope creep of executive powers. Shake off religious right influence that tries to use the government to tell people how to live their life.

It's only frustrating to big-govt addicts (in both parties) who expect government to do more, and more, and more.

It probably comes as news to them that the government governs best that governs least... because then its people take on more responsibilities for themselves and their own welfare.

Doing nothing... and blocking the efforts of the big-govt pushers who want it to do more and more... is the greatest favor they can do for the country.

The people are the nation. The govt isn't. (another fact that will come as news to liberals in both parties.)

The more govt does, the more the nation will be diminished and hobbled.

Yep, in the end I try to vote for checks and balances. One party shouldn't run the show. It should take a consensus for the government to do anything significant.

But when "small government conservatives" do have that power...they should use it to reduce government power. Limiting Trump's power would be a slam dunk with bipartisan support. Then you'd reap the benefits with the next Democrat.

That form of government is best, which governs least; what sane person would expect Big Brother to "do" more without additional interference in the lives of its citizens?

The majority of us are responsible and capable of running our own lives; we don't object to a an impartial judicial system, or an impartial police and correctional system to back it up.

Nor do we object to a basic "safety net" -- provided that the irresponsible minority is clearly identified and discouraged from abusing it.

But it's clear that the OP, like so many Democrats -- is more concerned with the use of power to dispense favoritism and influence to the dead weight on the other side of the fence -- and that fence needs some reinforcement.

It's called a private sector, answerable to a free market. And, claims by the bleeding hearts notwithstanding, it does a pretty good job of separating those down on their luck through no fault of their own from those who seek to make a career of parasitism.

I agree. I keep hoping they'll come back to that. I'm a Democrat, but I still don't like that Republicans seem to have gone off the rails.

Then there are those true conservatives who think that gridlock and "impotent" legislators can be a good thing, and who don't live to see the government "do stuff" for us.

But you have my sympathy that neither of your buddies--Gore or Kerry--made it into the WH.
