Sanders isn't a Democrat...he merely masquerades as one every four years.
But yes Bernie is a simplistic buffoon who is like a broken record. Simplistic buffoons unfortunately are very much in vogue politicians in the current zeitgeist including the current occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave (who has proposed his own Wealth tax in the past).
I am no apologist for the high income inequality we have in our current gilded age. That said, wealth taxes are better at reducing inequality on paper than anything. And this becomes more apparent as the taxes go from the modest levels that prevail currently in Switzerland or Norway to the confiscatory rates proposed by Sanders.
The inequality is not really the issue it is the creation of a servant class by way of many jobs on offer are servile in nature with few alternatives in most places. I don’t really care (well I do care but it’s out of my hands and in Jesus hands) if someone wants to go steal resources I just don’t want to pour your coffee and quite frankly don’t care what your problems are unless it’s a respected position with some real money on the table.
The problem is people still have to eat and the break down of the family is leaving people exposed to predators who offer up lousy servile jobs doing degrading things.
The predators are quite literally running our country.
Bernie and Warren have evolved beyond Socialism and are now Communist.
Many of their Wealth tax proposals would be illegal and not pass Supreme Court.
It is confiscation of your money after it's been taxed. It's not a tax.
I agree, I think they just need to go on a witch hunt and get these people thrown in jail and start enforcing anti trust laws in full force. Bust up big companies into 10-20 small ones and then drown the morally bankrupt ones in the bath tub
The problem with Sanders' simplistic thinking is that it runs smack into the counter-goals of globalism that his party espouses.
Billionaires can buy citizenship anywhere they want. When France put a big tax on millionaires they up and left and resettled elsewhere. Millionaires are also fleeing high tax states in the US to low tax states.
Tax the rich too much and they can move. Plenty of places on earth afford nice lifestyles these days. I know Bernie is like, 105, but he should know the world has changed since the 60s.
Ok so an individual billionaire leaves, but the real wealth is not on a computer screen it’s in the means of production which he would be leaving behind. If he is lucky he will find a buyer but if not then he is out.
I am not a Bernie supporter (or a Warren or a Biden or a Trump supporter), but I do think that it is a disgrace that billionaires exist as long as there are people who cannot even afford a basic existence, meaning adequate shelter and food.
(And, btw, I am very much against those who CAN work but refuse to do so. What I am talking about are the working poor, poor senior citizens, and the disabled who must decide whether it is more important to pay a utility bill or to go to the dentist.)
It also depends on the jobs on offer as well, we are moving into an age where a vast amount of jobs are undignified and servile. We should not require people to work these bull crap McJobs at servile slave wages.
You want some late night tacos ... it’s coming out of your a$$. 5 Taco Bell tacos ... that will be 35.50 please
I am genuinely happy for all the wealthy people in America. I love when other people have success and prosperity. It makes me happy that some people make so much money that they don't ever have to worry about how they will pay for heathcare or pay the bills. I just think some of what Bernie sanders says makes sense though. The ceos of this country make several hundred times more then their employees. It's not like Jamie dimon is more hardworking or more productive than his employees, but he makes several hundred times more than his employees. The price of insulin has skyrocketed 3 fold in just a decade. Greed is killing the country and the people people literally and figuratively. Not every Bernie supporter is a die hard socialist or communist. I agree with Bernie that university tuition, childcare, and healthcare are too expensive, and the government should be proactive and fix the problems of this country. I also don't want taxes to be raised on middle class Americans. I know Bernie wants Medicare for all and free university for everyone, but it would cost trillions of dollars. I think Bernie has a heart, and genuinely cares about people's well being, but his ideas are too radical imo. I am not a democrat or a republican. I am a political moderate. I can see the cons and pros of what republicans and democrats want to do.

Again: this isn't the 1900s. The true "means of production" is all overseas anyway. Most new and crazy American wealth is generated in the services industry. Particular tech and financial services.
You can run a hedge fund from anywhere in the world. You can operate a social media company from any country in the world. Do you think Facebook REALLY needs to operate out of San Francisco?
Or do you think there are no foreign billionaires whose primary market for whatever it is they are hawking is the United States?
