Old nuclear (i.e. all existing plants) are not good because they are so expensive that no one will take the financial risk to build one without billions of loan guarantees from the government and those programs have closed down (all current plants built prior to the 80s were financed with them).

However there are cheaper and safer reactor designs available today that could allow more nuclear power to make a comeback as a realistic option in a clean energy future.

Nuclear is still cheaper than wind and solar. Look at electricity rates in Germany as proof.
Well, there are other alternatives, unfortunately they are withheld from the public (thats a BIG problem). IF people dont even know they exist, how can they be factored into a solution?

Pumped-storage hydro is a proven way to store large quantities of energy to even out electricity supply when using wind and solar, the technology has been around for decades.

France solved that problem. If they did it other countries can do it too.

Yes, but it would take thousands of pumped storage facilities to provide enough electricity for the contiguous USA for a week of cloudy weather with low wind.

The math: https://dothemath.ucsd.edu/2011/11/pump-up-the-storage/

But the solar still creates more CO2 than nuclear. That's the point of this thread.
