We need teachers; how else will the children learn what a racist country this is?
If I was not happy with what my job paid, I would try to get a different one.
If I found that I wasn’t qualified for one that paid more, then I would have no choice but to accept that my existing job was worth keeping, and the pay was fair.
I would not throw a temper tantrum out in the streets or cry about it on the internet.

No one goes into teaching for your reasons. They want to teach because they are compassionate about it. And the old pensions were great, not so great these days though. And no, they don't retire early. Well maybe, but that's because they are burnt out and get another job. You really have no idea what teachers go through on a daily basis. You think they have it easy.

Tell me about it. Some of the worst school districts in the state, spend the most money per student. A great example is Asbury Park, a terrible school district that spends $42K per student. You could send them to the best private schools in the state for less than that. East Orange is another one at $28K per student. Newark and Camden are in the 20s too. Somehow, with all this money, these are all still places with the worst test scores in the state.

Lol, thats pretty naive. In college I was acquaintances with at least 2 dozen education majors and that was the prevailing theme among them. As an adult I'm acquaintances with multiple teachers and at least half of them have said or implied that. I'm sure some do it for good reasons, but lets not try to sugar coat this. I've heard 100s of stories, I know exactly what they go through, and as someone who works in the professional business world I have no sympathy for them. Their "struggles" are no different than my own.
Too bad the administrators of local school districts hog all cash while they give the teachers scraps.
In NJ, we have a superintendent for every district. There are over 600 districts. Many were making over $200K per year until Chris Christie capped them at $175K back in 2011. Our current democratic governor recently removed the cap.

Chicago Public School teachers ... career teachers typically retire with an average pension of $70,000+.
