BB, with all the political stuff you post, one would think you'd be an expert on rallies. Just the overtime for the police department stopping traffic would add up. The secret service depends on local law enforcement bigly.

The trump campaign is a fundraising juggernaut. They can afford to pay the local cops.

No more than a funeral. I'm sure Bikers for Trump would do it pro bono.

However, the responsibility for securing this event falls under the purview of the US Secret Service.

It seems likely that the political hack cultural Marxist mayor of Minneapolis will have to stand down, as there is already a contract in place and this is pretty clearly an effort to extort the political rivals of the Democrats.

Of course we have seen these same tactics before, on far left dominated campuses such as Berkeley, where when conservative speakers have not been denied access to reasonable facilities on campuses outright, they have been targeted with "Security fees" that other groups and speakers that are supported by the far left are not asked to pay.

Cancel culture. Either submit or shut up and go home. Those are your choices with these people. What is our country coming to?
How sad it is that Minneapolis has a lowlife for a mayor. This is what's been getting voted into office time and time again when people in these places don't learn about those who run for public office. Just like many other American cities, we have lowlifes running the asylum. The President has every right to visit Minneapolis. Mr Frey just needs to shut his pie hole and let the rally go on as scheduled. It's the American way!

In the meantime, more and more Minnesotans can find it in their hearts to vote Frey out of office next go-around.

The Republicans haven't won a city council or mayoral race in Minneapolis since the '70s. The Greens have had seats on the city council for the last 20 years and the Socialist Action Party has come close a few time in the last couple cycles. In 2016 there were precincts in the city where Trump came in third behind Jill Stein. The city is represented by Ilhan Omar in congress. If Frey is voted out of office it will be because he lost to somebody to his left. Minneapolis is a left wing city. People here think that Biden and Clinton are too conservative.

Sounds like the Mayor noticed the news about cities where Trump never paid his bills after his rally.

Dear OP, some perspective:

This brouhaha started when the Trump campaign threatened to sue a Minneapolis arena for passing along a half-million-dollar security bill to the Trump Campaign. This is the extra amount the city needed the arena to cover for the security costs of the president’s political campaign rally.

Minneapolis officials told the Target Center, that it would be responsible for the $530,000 the city says it will need to beef up security for President Trump’s visit. The Target Center planned to pass that bill along to the Trump campaign and said the campaign would have to pay or it could not use the arena.

So the bully-in-chief, Donald Trump, unleashed a day of angry tweets, mostly directly at the Democratic Minneapolis mayor. Suddenly the Trump campaign announced this evening that the arena will not be canceling the contract and the Trump Campaign will not be paying the fees.

So the roving band of Trump loyalists who follow along from city to city, for these circuses, can now descend upon Minneapolis knowing their "billionaire" President, the real thug who extorts free services from struggling cities, will be getting another free ride. No cost to his campaign.

The extortion is on the other foot, OP. Trump threatens to bury municipalities and private businesses with mountains of legal fees and years of litigation in order to save the Trump Team a few dollars, probably because they couldn't find a way to bill it to the U.S. GOVERNMENT.

The security fees infuriated the Trump team, which accused Mayor Jacob Frey of trying to block Trump’s visit. Trump personally slammed the mayor calling him a “lightweight.” and other smears. Trump’s campaign manager, Brad Parscale, accused Frey of “abusing his power.”

The Trump campaign’s legal team sent the Target Center’s parent company, AEG Management, a letter Monday declaring that refusing to allow Trump to hold his event there would be a breach of contract. The letter said the Trump campaign “will aggressively pursue all remedies available to it in law or equity.” Brad Parscale accused Frey of extortion and claimed the mayor personally “conjured" the bill for security in an effort to block a "Keep America Great" rally.

In one particularly egregious tweet session where POTUS attacked the mayor, Trump retweeted his campaign manager, dear old web-brigade Brad Parscale, and wrote: “The lightweight mayor is hurting the great police and other wonderful supporters. 72,000 ticket requests already. Dump Frey and Omar! Make America Great Again!”

Frey, acting more presidential than our whining, sniveling, narcissistic, sociopathic, paranoid and perpetually campaigning President, responded to Trump's tweet, saying

“Yawn. . . Welcome to Minneapolis where we pay our bills, we govern with integrity, and we love all of our neighbors".

I don't know why we are still surprised by it. It's out there ALL the time.

I really hope the Trump campaign pays the security bill for his campaign event.

Sincerely,

A Minneapolis resident

Cosigned. If he doesn't pay it, we will be on the hook for it.

That would take days for the Secret Service to do background checks on them. Not enough time.
