No offense taken. But usually mostly girls prefer my company, I guess boys have other interests.

Wow so legalizing gay unions is now a measure of social advancement?

I mean with all the school shootings, teen mothers, drug and alcohol abuse and poverty in America you picked legalizing gay marriage as a sign of social advancement?

If anything I'd say people like yourself are the ones holding back social advancement by pushing trivial matters to the forefront while ignoring the real societal ills that are plaguing America.

Wanting equal rights is just a trivial pursuit in America?

Is the OP trying to say White nations are more socially advanced? Somewhat racist, no?

Only when you are convinced that white can only be right.
Or that only white homosexuals have the same rights as heterosexuals.

Well, the president suspends Habeaus Corpus, and openly endorses the use of torture, and America yawns. We hear reports of innocent people kept in Guantanamo for years with no trial, and we shrug our shoulders. We learn of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civillians killed as the direct result of Bush's invasion, and look the other way. We learn of the rigged black box elections in our own country, and roll our eyes. We see the 3 trillion that Bush wasted in Iraq, and when we learn how it will impact our economy and social security benefits, now that gets us going.
All in all, I'd say we are a very selfish, morally compromised country.

Gay marriage only directly effects 1-7% of the American population depending on what research you look at. These other issues effect all of us equally, so comparatively gay rights IS trivial.

Besides you failed to understand my point and that is that the way things are going we are heading towards a fascist state unlike most EU countries that are more socialist in behavior. We are heading for closed borders that will prevent many AMERICANS from leaving this nation. And you can blame BUSH AND THE REPUBLICANS for that.
Umm. The closed borders are to prevent illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central America from coming in. It will have no directly legal effect on the ability of Americans to leave the United States (although it is possible that other countries might make American immigration harder) and Bush hasn't been the most ardent supporter of closed borders, many nativists have accused him of dragging his feet.

Now, I think there are better ways of enforcing immigration laws and I think that generally speaking, the flow of people from nation to nation is a good thing. And I am also no fan of Bush either, but at least get the facts straight. Yes, facts. Verifiable and not open to interpretation facts.

So the qualification for being socially "advanced" is gay marriage? I would term it differently, liberalism and secular progressive are more like it.

There is nothing wrong believing your country is the best country in the world, that was the prevailing belief when we were the best country in the world...and we apparently still have the most freedoms and opportunities. The social demise of this country began with the push for moral relativism, and the spread of the incorrect belief that we are not the best. Remember, immigrants left Europe for more freedom and opportunities in America, not to turn America into Europe.
