o Strengthen and expand coordination among the Tax Division, IRS and US Attorneys’ offices to ensure that both criminal and civil enforcement tools are fully considered and utilized.
o Leverage expertise and resources to enable agents and attorneys across the country to efficiently detect, investigate and where appropriate, prosecute tax defiers, viewing enforcement from a national rather than regional or local perspective. (from the DOJ/taxdef initiative...hmmm)
The article goes on to say that he offered money before the court date as a gesture of 'good-will' but, according to the irs, it wasn't enough. Which raises the question - Is the "IRS" mainly about money or power abeit control?
It is believe, again, according to the irs, that he owed anywhere between 14 to 40 million dollars. Well, let's use 27 million as a median number. For 3 years into 27 million owed, it comes out to 9 million a year for sentencing. It comes out to 24,658 dollars a day in prison per dollar owed. So, for regular folks like me that's obligated, or better yet, forced to pay around 5 grand in taxes per year, coupled with an 'entertainment purposes only' view on how much time one would spend would be 5 hours in prison. I would think that would be a fair trade-off for five grand.

I've got no sympathy for Wesley Snipes. None at all. He's a tax cheat, and not a small time cheat, either.
ITA, why should he be treated differently? Middle-class people are required to pay their taxes; some even sacrificing necessities to make monthly installments. His arrogance doesn’t garner much sympathy either.
The IRS was the only government agency that was able to put away Capone. It's the legal Mafia.
So you'd rather have Capone and his cronies running this country?
Snipes got what he deserved for hiring a cheap lawyer. That idiot!
