I certainly concur in the theory, and I would see MADD as a plain example of it in action. There aren't other examples listed above that would illustrate the second part of the claim, so I can't really comment on that much. I'm not sure though that the generalization of erosion in support for "liberal" organizations since the early 70's is an entirely accurate one. More details would be needed there as well...
Not to hijack the thread, I'll just state that I was considering organizations such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and the Center for Science in the Public Interest (AKA the Food Police).
Because it's not. One or two beers is not enough to significantly impair driving ability...
I won't drive with any beers in me. Even one beer gives me a buzz, and therefore would affect my driving. All I have to say is never mix drinking and driving and voila! No problems with getting a DUI. Drinking should not be that important to anyone for a successful night out. And if it is, I'd suggest that person dry out for 30 days and rethink what they do for fun and who their friends are.

Your statement is based on your personal experience, not scientific fact. The very first website I pulled up has some VERY interesting information. One of which that states in all 50 states .08 or higher is illegal. It also states that the younger the drinker is, the lower the alcohol level needs to be to effect their driving.
This is a peer reviewed article that can not be argued with unless the person doing the arguing is in deep denial about their own drinking problem. It states specifically that a BAC of .05 can create problems IN SOME PEOPLE. Frankly I don't see why you would take the chance.
Do you have any idea how many times I have heard a bipolar person say they don't NEED their medication, an alcoholic say they don't have a drinking problem, a drug addict say they can stop anytime. The more a person makes statements like they can have a drink or two and drive in spite of the obvious risks the MORE I believe that person has a problem.
Yet another website saying that BACs as low as .02 effect crash likelihood and driving ability.
I already knew this but it only took me a few minutes to find SEVERAL references to support what I had learned in the past. I hope you that feel its OK to drink a couple drinks and drive will take the time to read these articles with an open mind.

Exactly, why on earth would you take the chance, studies show that a BAC as low as .02 can cause enough impairment to effect your driving. In my opinion the only people who would take that chance are people with a drinking problem.
Sure. Your posts match the profile of those with tendencies toward animal abuse. Aggression, judgmentalism, vengefulness, sadism...these are all markers...

Cell phones, eating, being in a bad mood, itchy contact lenses, less than 8 hours sleep, changing the radio...I could go on and on of things that impair driving. I'm certainly not in favor of drunk driving, but the cause has gotten out of hand. MADD and the like have invaded the public conciousness in an over the top manner toward prohibition and moral failings.
A person can go out to dinner and have a glass of wine and be able to operate a car. The laws need to be reasonable. The majority of tragedies are cause by repeat offenders who exercise no responsibility over their drinking. The problem is a very specific group of people, I have seen it over and over again.
I forgot sneezing, maybe people with allergies shouldn't be allowed to drive as they might sneeze.
