In other words, you want to remove control of education from the local areas? From the elected school boards and parents?

No, I just believe in earning the money you make, not making money off of just having money. There's only so many resources in this world, and that idea just favors the rich. Besides, I don't want to have to worry about having my money help fund some sweatshop.

This was in discussion last year, not sure the status:

Treasury gets equity stake*on airline bailouts - March 5, 2007

This was after 911, 15 million bail.

Airlines bailout status (broken link)

If you look back over time I think you will find many Airlines receiving "financial aid".

Socialized Capitalism at its finest.

In short yes. Elected school boards and parents usually have very little idea of standards and whats necessary to be competitive. We're in a global marketplace (which you seem to love) we should have global standards of learning. Otherwise we're just short changing children.

Does anyone think 7.8 Billion in profit for Shell is excessive?

Me, I do. With people starving all around the world I think this is way to excessive.

Would you rather communist China have the largest oil companies? It's happening.

Nationalizing the oil industry is just crazy talk. Its the profit motive that incentivizes these companies to go out and find more oil fields.

When I go to the store and see something I want but the price is too high, I don't complain that the government should nationalize the company and give me my ipod/HDTV/viking stove/ferrarri/first class plane ticket to Europe for $0.20, I learn to do without.

If you have structured your life so that you can not afford $4 gas, may I suggest that perhaps you should have planned for this eventuality and not assumed gas would be $1.50/gal forever.

No - I don't.

71/4 - 71/2% profit on revenue is far from excessive
