things like:
expired tags.
minor speeding.
minor traffic violations
"broken tail-lights"

most of this stuff is merely revenue collection and/or extortion via "comply-or-die" rules. Most of this stuff has nothing to do with keeping the public safe.

In New York, back in 2017 when the police stopped going after petty crimes, the crime rates dropped.

Don't you get it... this is how police / law enforcement / government gets around the 4th amendment. They say they saw some minor infraction so they can search anyone, at any time, if necessary or they feel they want to.
By having these things there... we give police the leeway to act if they need to.

Personally, I think the issue it throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Police get to take reasonable precautions but they signed up for the job and no they just can't start shooting because they are hysterical. They get paid a lot to risk their lives... we merely need to take action when a police officer unjustifiably kills someone and, if they kill someone but had cause... accept it.

In other words.. we need to all start acting sane again.

Yes, ignore the law.

By going after the small stuff NYC was cleaned of ctime and made safe.

Suggest we go back to the slippery slope of increasing crime.

How about shouting from the rooftops, Do not resist arrest!!!!!!!!!!

That would go a lot further that allowing traffic infractions to go by.

Expired tags is especially odd. Why is that something they have to catch on the street? They know when they expire in the database. Mail out a renewal request or for proof that the car was sold/no longer operated. Then start stacking up fines automatically.

The bottom, iron clad line:

DO NOT RESIST ARREST. OBEY ORDERS. YE SHALL NOT BE SHOT. NO MATTER YE COLOR.

Case closed.

You don't have to reregister a vehicle if it is not on public streets. Who wants to be getting notices and having to prove you're no longer operating the vehicle and how would you prove and disprove it anyway. It makes sense to catch it in the act while patrolling.

What I don't understand is, why do police initiates a police chase when they want to stop someone for a minor traffic violation. What is more important, having a high speed chase due to something of that nature and putting the public, motorists, police, and the occupants of the vehicle at risk or writing that ticket and arresting them from running from the law?

some people still end up harmed by police even when they "obey". Sometimes, and quite often the police will give conflicting order like the military guy that recently filed a lawsuit. "keep your hands up, but open the door to get out". There was also a incident caught on video where the cop asked a guy to get his id so he reached inside his car for his ID and got shot FOLLOWING COMMANDS.

the issue isn't with civilians, these police are the ones jumpy and scared and sometimes stupid.
