Cheney/Bandar/Elliot Abrams Funded Terrorist Group Now At War in Lebanon | LaRouche Political Action Committee (http://www.larouchepac.com/pages/breaking_news/2007/05/24/hersh.shtml - broken link)

MAY 24, (LPAC)--In an interview with CNN on Tuesday, May 22, New Yorker magazine investigative journalist Seymour Hersh repeated charges he published in that magazine in March, that the Bush Administration has been working with Saudi Arabia to arm Sunni fundamentalist cells, to fight Hezbollah. The recent explosion of violence in northern Lebanon between the Lebanese Army and the previously little-known group Fatah al-Islam, is but the latest example of this rotten collusion, Hersh charged.

Well this is one way of fighting the war on terror.

It seems if though the U.S. policymakers regarding foreign affairs never learn the notion of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" isn't infallible.

Reminds me of that cartoon-picture where a character plugs one hole only to have three more spring up and so on.

This quote if true is most telling. Funding Sunni Jihadist, then blaming the rising escalation of violence on Syria. Makes one wonder how often this sort of thing takes place.

Quote:
the idea was to get support, covert support from the Saudis, to support various hard-line jihadists, Sunni groups, particularly in Lebanon, who would be seen in case of an actual confrontation with Hezbollah -- the Shia group in the southern Lebanon -- would be seen as an asset, as simple as that.

GORANI: The Bush administration, of course, officials would disagree with that, so would the Siniora government, openly pointing the finger at Syria, saying this is an offshoot of a Syrian group, Fatah al-Islam is, where else would it get its arms from if not Syria.

Yeah, that whole "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" strategy worked so well in Afghanistan where we drove the Soviets out and help bring about their collapse, but in the process helped foster Radical Islam and create the Taliban.

It's VERY dangerous playing that kind of game.

This news is about a year old, from when the Lebanese troops fought and eventually beat those terrorists last August. Still true, nonetheless.
