The solution to our budget problems is to send less money to DC.

California has been shortchanged in the amount of spending we get from DC relative to how much we send there to the tune of $50 Billion annually.

During the heights of the dot com boom,
*In 2000, we received $80 Billion less in spending that what we sent to DC.

*In 2001, we received $100 Billion less in spending than what we sent to DC

Meanwhile other states were building bridges to nowhere. *rolls eyes*

Quite frankly,
I can live with that amount.
Really? So for every $140 you make, will you send $5 to me? In effect, that's what you're doing- throwing away money to someone who doesn't deserve it.

Your money sure wasn't sent here to Ohio, buddy. Check the state of Iraq, follow the money trail and see where it takes you; your money isn't here. Thanks.

23 states are on the brink of going bankrupt.

Ask someone in Michigan how they are doing.

Everyone wants to blame California's problems on illegals, when it is really a very small drain. Illegal Immigration tends to be a scapegoat for much of America.

I don't want to move this to the Immigration Forum, so let's keep the illegal immigrants as only part of the discussion.

As one who has lived in multiple states (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Missouri, Virginia, Ohio and California) I can tell you that all is not lost out here in CA. Having recently moved from Ohio, I can tell you that the economic picture is less of a concern out here than back in the Buckeye state. The economic growth is phenomenal, and CA will grow their way out of the problem.

Guaranteed.

California controls of over 10% of the House of Representatives and Pelosi is Speaker. You can't blame the Fed for anything... California is the fed.

I love it, people bash California but the fact is the other states are probably surviving off taxes paid by Californians.

California is a donor state, for every $1.00 donated to the Fed in Taxes we receive $0.78 back. It has been this way since the mid 80's.

The Tax Foundation - Federal Taxes Paid vs. Federal Spending Received by State, 1981-2005

Aren't the Arkansas, Kentucky, and Louisiana economies doing well? They receive 1.50+ for every 1.00 paid.

Actually for every dollar Ohio sends to DC, they get $1.05 in spending. So actually, CA and other donor states(ironically most donor states are blue states) are picking up the slack there.

But I agree with Iraq-colossal waste of money.

Do you have those numbers with Social Security/Medicare excluded?

No, but as far as California, that would make the disparity even greater since overall, we get less in spending then what we send to DC in sum.
