Post News, Rev. Jackson wants assault rifle ban.

CHICAGO, May 17 (UPI) -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson said Saturday arming Chicago police with semiautomatic rifles increases the need to ban assault weapons.

The Rainbow PUSH Coalition president expressed his views about gun control during a news conference at the organization's Chicago headquarters.

i recall reading an article stating that the vast majority of gun crime in Chicago is done with handguns, not assault rifles.

Oh wait, handguns are already banned in CHicago, and that hasn't done squat to stop crime.

It's amazing that with the overwhelming evidence that allowing citizens to own handguns actually helps reduce crime.. people still call for firearms bans...

i don't know if there's a better definition for retarded than that...

Whats funny is what people like Jackson call an assault rifle, it is based on looks, and looks alone. I can show you two weapons, both shoot the exact same round, but one looks mean and is classified as an assault rifle, and the other one is legal,

What an idiot. Doesnt he know that the criminals who use guns to commit violent crime are not owners of legally purchased firearms? These anti-gun people really have no clue.

assault rifles are extremly hard for even a law abiding citizen to get ahold of. There are many many more background checks, and what not associated with being able to own a selective fire weapon

A ban on them would see absolutely no crime reduction as criminals do not abide to laws in the first place, and if they do have a selective fire assault rifle, there is no way they got it legally due to the process of getting a license to own one.

I wonder how much money the "Reverend" Jackson will make out of THIS one! LOL

I feverently pray for the day that when his name comes up...folks will furrow up their brows and say "the reverend WHO?"

I believe banning violent crime might help...it will do as much good as Jackson's idea anyway.

Be careful now, OZ...you might cause some of the Brady Bunch to go into a tizzy fit by such common sense!

yea, don't get me wrong, i don't want to ban assault rifles.. i'm just saying..

that the anti gunners use the term "assault weapons". which is incorrect and made up. That's how they're able to ban guns that aren't assault rifles. That's also how they ban "scary guns."

It's sad... if people stopped and thought a little, reviewed the facts. They would realize that banning citizens from owning guns is a very bad idea..
