The same can be said of individauls that sale thing at garage sale and at other times locally.Do you collect taxes whyen you sale a couch or anyhting else?I doubt the feds collecting state taxes would pass mustard with the courts.Besides the feds would attach conditions that have nothing to do with the collection.Sates basically have no right to collect taxes excepyt within thewir state period.A federal sales tax would never pass; unless they frop the income tax altogether.
You bring up a very good point on private, non-internet person to person sales. I have attended garage sales, farm auctions and flea markets where sales tax is never charged. Also, what if I buy an iterm off of a friend of mine. How is the sales tax handled on that? Why should you pay sales tax on used items? Wasn't it already charged when the item was new? This sounds like double or triple taxation to me.
About 10 years ago I bought a very high end PC on a telephone order from Gateway. The machine's price was over $7000. I didn't get charged sales tax. That was great since the sales tax would have been several hundred dollars. A coworker of mine at the time told me that I am obliged to send the tax money in voluntarily to the state; ya right, they can keep on waiting.
Are you insane? Why would you want the government to steal more of your money? They mismanage the money they take now why would you want them to take more? Why do you want them to continue taking what they take? If they take more than 10% I think it is excessive... they exceeded that many years ago.
