I'm assuming that one of the main reasons women have abortions is for financial reasons. They simply can't afford to have a child or have another child. If abortions were to be banned with the exception of rape and sever medical reasons would we see an increase in child poverty if women no longer have the option for abortions outside of those two reasons? Would this cause a need to expand the welfare state to help support all of these children living with struggling parents?

There would be more children in foster care and more single mothers dependent on government benefits. Inotherwords, increased tax burden. Would these children grow up to be productive members of society or themselves welfare recipients having their own kids dependent on the government?

In any case the point is moot. If republicans try to ban abortion, they will be quickly voted out of power, no matter how loony democrats are. Leave it up to the states. This should be the motto of both parties going forward to save the polarization of our culture and prevent civil wars, states seceding, etc. Limit federal government oversight.

Very little will change. People will either travel out of state or the new post-contraceptive pill will become much more popular.

Absolutely! If abortions were not available in the U.S., there would be very noticeable increases in poverty, welfare cases, and numerous other problems of crime in a decade or two. I think the abortion opponents think that they are just punishing the woman for getting pregnant when in reality, numerous other family members would often suffer the consequences too. And, of course, taxpayers would have to pay more also regardless of their views on abortion.

BTW, I'm Republican and I think for myself on each issue and decide accordingly.

Are we not calling it an abortion pill anymore? Will the new name allow the anti-abortion crowd to use that pill? Lol.

Who knows and who cares. But it promises to be an effective game changer in the long run. It's already widely used in Europe.

It is interesting how tone deaf pro-choicers are when it comes to some of their arguments they try to make. They deliberately ignore the core position of pro-lifers and manufacture silly pro-choice logics that do not rebut pro-life arguments. They also manfacture fake positions like saying it is about a woman's body. That is just what they believe is the best argument today. The bottom line is that the pro-life argument is that a fetus is a person deserving of protection from murder. You cant say "well, if you dont let us murder fetuses there will be more poor people!" The pro-choice position is really that they think people should have the opportunity to abort fetuses so that they dont "ruin their lives" by being stuck with a baby.

As a former social worker I have seen a ton of poverty, hungry kids and abused kids. Ideally birth control is the answer with the morning after pill as a fallback with abortions being a last resort.
