Mass Shootings by Country

USA ranks #11 among the US, Canada and Europe with mass shootings. It ranks #64 in the world. Why does the left keep saying we are the only country with a mass shooting problem?

Average (Mean) Annual Death Rate per Million People from Mass Public Shootings (U.S., Canada, and Europe, 2009-2015):

  1. Norway — 1.888
  2. Serbia — 0.381
  3. France — 0.347
  4. Macedonia — 0.337
  5. Albania — 0.206
  6. Slovakia — 0.185
  7. Switzerland — 0.142
  8. Finland — 0.132
  9. Belgium — 0.128
  10. Czech Republic — 0.123
  11. United States — 0.089
  12. Austria — 0.068
  13. Netherlands — 0.051
  14. Canada — 0.032
  15. England — 0.027
  16. Germany — 0.023
  17. Russia — 0.012
  18. Italy — 0.009
In addition, a 2018 CRPC study ranked the U.S. at number sixty-four in the world in terms of mass shooting rates per capita.

Well in the case of Norway ( as the study itself mentions ) the top prize position it received was due to the Breivik incident in 2011 and I suspect France's high standing may very well be related to the Bataclan incident which occurred in the same time frame that this study measures as well .

In the case of countries like Macedonia and Albania I imagine many of these mass shootings may be organized crime and/or family feud related and since they don't typically involve innocent vulnerable civilians get little media coverage , especially in the English language mainstream media .

All in all countries like Mexico and Brazil probably have more mass shootings over the course of one day if a police and/or military raid against DTO's over there turns violent , with the only arguably " unique " thing about mass shootings in the USA being that they seem more likely to take place in schools and/or involve random psychopaths who aren't motivated by ideology or profit .

Then again maybe it's just another case of lack of media coverage that gets transferred to the English language press from other countries and/or shortage of reliable statistics regarding this issue that exist on an international scale which makes the USA seem to stand out more than other countries in this regard .

Setting all this aside I still think it's safe to say that the United States does indeed have an issue with mass shootings , regardless of how it actually stacks up against other countries in reality , a problem whose solution ( which can obviously never be of the completely eliminate the problem variety ) must go way beyond haggling over proposed legislation since the root cause is at it's heart non legislative in nature .

Your flawed logic is that you failed to discuss the frequency of mass shootings, and only want to discuss the number of people killed because conveniently for you the US has a much larger denominator than most other countries. From your very own source, lol:

Quote:
Using the median analysis, the United States is the only country examined that shows a propensity for mass shootings. The data itself supports this interpretation, as the United States endured mass shooting events all seven years, but the other countries all experienced mass shootings during only one or two years. Thus, in a typical year, most countries experience zero mass shooting deaths, while the US experiences at least a few.

The data is a bit fishy on this one. For example, the high rate for France is from a 2015 Islamist terrorist attack. That would be like the USA data including the nearly 3,000 casualties from the 9/11 attack.

Cherry picking the years when there was some major terrorist attacks. Trying looking at data covering a bigger time frame of several decades and then see what the results are.

The OP's own link explains how faulty and flawed this "one study" actually is.

The Crime Prevention Research Center....is just a front for the pro-gun lobby. Taking their "research" at face value is like trusting tobacco company funded research about cigarette smoking and its impact on human health.

Garbage in, Garbage out.

I thought the rankings looked crazy / suspicious.

Whether it's true or not, everyone knows that the USA is generally more gun pro that most other nations.

I hate that groups like The Crime Prevention Research Center would publish a non-scientific like this and the general public takes it at face value. Pro gun groups know that perception is what matters, not facts. Super slimy and douchebag.

I don't care if you are pro gun or against it. At least admit that there is a gun problem in America and something has to be done. Stop blaming it on "mental illness", etc. It's plain sad when we can't sit down and come up with a solution or at least improvements to reduce the violence.

Mass shootings tend to push the numbers up. Funny how that works.

Wait a second. You believe the USA has an issue with mass shootings whether or not the numbers show if its actually true? The USA is 65 times bigger than Norway. Its similar to the size of Oklahoma where I am. Last mass shooting in Oklahoma was in 1986 where 14 were killed at a post office. Guns are everywhere here yet Norway has a bigger problem with mass shooting and has much stricter gun control.

There has been one school shooting this year. The shooting in Texas. In Europe there has been one school shooting this year the Heidelberg University shooting in Germany. Most of the shootings some call mass shootings in the USA are often fights that get out of control. A fight breaks out at a party late night. Someone pulls a gun and shoots three people. Mass shooting. The amount of mass shootings where someone shows up at a location with the purpose of shooting people represents about 10% of what are called mass shootings.

There has been about as many mass shootings as there has been people killed in mass shootings. Averages about 1 death per shooting which includes the death of the shooter. Not saying mass shooting are ok. But barely 200 people killed in a country of over 300 million and we need to violate millions of peoples civil liberties because of this. And the Texas school shooting could have been prevented with the school properly secured or the police being more proactive in stopping the shooter. But I don't hear the media ranting about poor security at the school. They rant that we need more gun control.

List of mass shootings in the United States in 2022

In Europe knife attacks are more common.

3-21-2022: Two killed in knife attack at Swedish school — police
