so that's the way you see it? wouldn't it therefore make sense then to kill the goose that was laying the golden eggs for them ie buy less oil?

The US has areas to find new oil. We don't do it because it might displace some dang endangered frog or a rare species of some bug somewhere.

while i sort of agree with you, do you not think that it is worth considering the importance of saving some of that oil for future generations and as well as strategic reserves?

Maybe to penny pinchers like you, but to me it isnt a lot. I pay 60-70 to fill my Jeep from E to Full. Guess what I can afford that. I love my Jeep cause If i ever did get into an accident with people driving little clown cars like you, I would walk away you would be taken away in an ambulance.
Also, if anyone cared to look at the list of countries we import oil from Canada is #1

Wow - there you go - being judgmental once again.
I'm in Southern California at the moment - my vehicle has a 21 gallon tank - sorta standard size. Regular Unleaded is at $4.20 a gallon. It would take almost $90.00 to fill up an empty tank here - and LOTS of CARS have the same size tanks -

Sadly - lots of AUTOMOBILE owners are paying that - and more (if they need the higher octane fuel)
Its not merely SUV's you know -

then charge Ted Kennedy and his relatives with --"treason"
It was reported he got picked up after his hospital release by a SUV and the "Kennedy clan" are frequently seen driving to the beach in their SUV's.
Oh, you meant call it treason if the underpriveleged do it but look the other way when the "priveleged" do it ?
Yeah right !
Maybe the Kennedy's buy --carbon credits --- ( like Al Gore claims he does)

If I have enough money going to a fancy place isnt that big of a deal, where as if i dont have so much it is a big deal.
Also, guess what what it says on the sticker doesnt mean thats what it is in reality. You have heard from TWO owners of Suburbans tell you it doesnt cost that much to fill up and yet you still deny it. You are so set in your ways you ignore the truth. It is pointless to argue with some one like you because truth and common sense just dont work.

A car with poor MPG in my opinion is a terrible investment. It's not the dollar amount that is being spent (after all, I spend just as much in one trip to Whole Foods), it's that it seems like a waste of money. I'm sure someone else considers spending $150 at Whole Foods a waste of money, too.
As for differences in MPG on any given car, I agree. We'll all get slightly different MPG. It's still too little, in my opinion.
I'm not arguing with anyone's right to drive whatever they like, I'm simply stating that it doesn't make economic sense for me, or for most people, to drive one. Truth and common sense seem pretty variable, don't they?

I don't get it. This really isn't personal. Why are you trying to make it so?

One needs to define what they consider "poor" MPG -
Less than 10MPG?
Less than 15MPG
Less than 20MPG
Less than 25MPG
Less than 30MPG
And so on

You are placing everyone in your financial situation, we are not. I can afford to drivemy Jeep and fill it up, thats why I drive it. If the time comes when gas is $10 a gallon or beyond my ability to fill it up then I will get something else. Just because you think it is alot doesnt mean we cant afford it. Would I like gas prices to drop yea, I'd love to payless but hit doesnt not mean I cant pay them .
