Because the number of cases is increasing, and the virus may become endemic in countries where it has not been before, including the US.

It will not stay in the gay population. There will be children who are infected and spread it to friends and classmates.

The disease makes people miserable and can cause complications requiring hospitalization. Skin scarring can occur.

Finally, it costs money.

Any other questions?

Yes - another question... how come the leaders, who locked everything down and wanted full compliance masking (except for themselves)for COVID, are not stopping the behavior that leads to m-pox?

Public Health Officials Say You Can’t Expect People To Change Behavior To Prevent Monkeypox

Monkeypox was declared a public health emergency Thursday, but multiple public health officials have expressed a hesitancy to impose restrictions or discourage sex in interviews and social media posts.

Public health authorities imposed mask mandates, vaccine requirements and school and business closures to slow the spread of COVID-19. Some officials now argue that people who are at high risk for contracting monkeypox shouldn’t be asked to make behavioral changes to slow the spread of monkeypox.

Monkeypox is spread primarily through sex and 97% of U.S. monkeypox patients are men who have sex with men, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

...
Democratic California State Sen. Scott Wiener, who is involved in San Francisco’s monkeypox response, agued against discouraging people from having sex.

“If people want to have sex, they are going to have sex,” he told The Washington Post.

97%... the science seems pretty clear and straightforward.

"If you or a partner has monkeypox, the best way to protect yourself and others is to avoid sex of any kind (oral, anal, vaginal) and do not kiss or touch each other’s bodies while you are sick, especially any rash," the CDC said. "Do not share things like towels, fetish gear, sex toys, and toothbrushes."

What else do you suggest?

How much do you think this viewpoint plays into the government's weak response to M-Pox?

Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, emphasized the importance of avoiding anything that may stigmatize the gay community in a July 26 NPR interview.

Calling it a "gay disease" when it is not will not help to get the gay community engaged in controlling the outbreak.

How is the government's response "weak"? What else can it do?

Daily Caller is extreme right bias BS website that routinely publish misleading or false information. AKA fake news
Stop reading that crap!

FYI:
Monkeypox is primarily spreading through close physical contact, including hugging, kissing or sex.
People can be exposed to monkeypox during these activities through contact with bodily fluids or lesions. The virus can also spread through respiratory droplets and contaminated items like clothing or bedding.

So half the threads on monkeypox is attacking the administration for making it a health emergency.

The other half attacking this administration for the number of cases, implying it isn't doing enough.

Even in this thread conservatives stumbling over each other to argue both sides.

It's an emergency because if it wasn't -- folks would be saying 'we have the most cases' why aren't we taking this seriously.

The other countries didn’t Pride hard enough. The random butt stuff with strangers during Pride Month led to Monkeypox Month.

Have you not seen Biden with his hands all over other men's wives and little girls, feeling them up, sniffing their hair and so on?
