This is the ultimate question and it must be answered because the US (western Europe too) is going in a direction that is similar to the periods of the Bolshevik revolution before WW1 and the Weimar Republic before WW2. The texture of society is eroding in a similar pattern and WW3 has never been so tangible.
Traditional western values of morality, not strictly in the religious sense, but simply the individual values of being upstanding, being honest, behaving like good neighbors with each other and promoting a healthy family structure are being systematically deconstructed. Up to about the millennium, this structure was more or less stable and intact.
The sudden and radical systemic changes do not seem to be organic. The American society had good foundations and good people. The US has been a highly patriotic nation (regardless of individual party sympathy), very united, high trust and cohesive, much more so than Europe. It was the norm up until about 10-20 years ago.
It takes a lot to completely reverse the societal dynamics of a nation with such strong fundamental values. It takes a lot the break the collective consciousness of people that share powerful and deeply rooted common ideals of the meaning of good and evil.
There is no other explanation but to presume the existence of an entity – an internal threat - that works against the organically developed American values and which wants to weaken and ultimately demolish everything that the USA has been traditionally standing for.
Yours is a good question OP and we may never know who the Puppet Masters are but we can see who the puppets are.
What is so bad about America? Yes we had some dark times in our History from slavery to the fight for Civil Rights but today in general the only thing holding someone back is themselves.
We could ask why Obama said that he wanted to Fundamentally change America. Why?
We could ask why was MAGA so terrible? MAGA was meant for every citizen and Legal Immigrant and it was working until the Covid Pandemic came along.
We could ask why is the Biden Admin set on the destruction of America? The Border is wide open, the Dems are spending us into oblivion, the Climate mandates are beyond the Science and Reality of the time and Crime is both allowed and encouraged. It is like Society is crumbling before our eyes as the norms are pushed. Who would have ever thought that it would be perfectly acceptable for a man in lingerie to be hanging out with children? Who would have ever thought that children would be made to question their gender and be ashamed they were born White?
The Democrats are pushing a wedge through this country that is dividing us like never before. What is the end goal of their schemes? It seems that they are seeking to rule over us with an iron fist. They want America to be a land of have nots that look to the Government for everything.
The Democrats seek ultimate power where they rule over the People from the Womb to the Tomb, from the Cradle to the Grave. They just want to tear it all down and replace it with?? I don't even think they know.
it’s not just puppet masters, its a few categories of people:
1. there are a few characters with a lot of money who are experts at setting up corporate entities to donate to their pet causes. they are either insidious or truly believe they are helping society.
2. the political/ruling class. always falling over themselves to say whatever platitude keeps them in power. power is money. money is respect. mostly low intelligence people but they can get a law degree and have plenty of funds from the 1st group to get reelected for a lifetime
3. the influencers, basically the same as #2 except instead of political power they have power of celebrity. they have to keep to themselves or scream the talking points from the mountains to retain their acceptance
4. the corporate class: they make up large companies in all sectors. they attend the same fundraisers and parties as 1 -3. they have to stick to the narrative or face pressure from the above groups
5. the vocal general public feed into the narrative with their mob mentality. all groups feed into each other. the minority opinions are silenced, cancelled and dangerous. now don’t get me wrong, if the unpopular opinions were mainstream and the popular opinions were fringe, the same result would occur. people always feed the mob no matter what side they are on. most normal people are caught in the middle of all this.

Well Europe is pretty successful. China is also pretty successful now after suffering their growing pains.
If anyone is closest to the characteristic of nazis and fascists it would be those in government conspiring with private media companies to hide information from the public ..to sway elections. Silencing and banning dissidents. So they can hold onto power that’s Fascism/Nazism/Communism.
It's a great question. Very hard to get to the bottom of it. We see individual examples of societal tear-down all around us and at the ground level they appear pervasive but random and unconnected leaving us to wonder - "Why is American culture, history, economic stability, capitalism, political/judicial institutions, military power, academia and education, even our understanding of science being torn down?" Where's the commonality between a rewrite of gender science and a push for economic suicide by climate theology? What's the connection behind the dismissal of thousands of Marines and Naval Academy members for vax mandate infractions, tearing down statues of Thomas Jefferson and teaching CRT to elementary school kids?
I believe the only unified field theory that explains it all is chaos. I think there is a globalist Marxist elite that sees America as the last speed bump in their way towards worldwide socialism. Their solution is to break America down to its component atoms as it were. Sow chaos across the spectrum with the goal being civil war, anarchy, what have you then fill that vacuum with a Marxist message that "the world" can lift us up again. Marxism can bring peace, equality and stability.
Who are these people? Soros is obviously a likely candidate but there must be many more. It's hard to identify these people because they hide their Marxist beliefs inside of mega-capitalist identities. How do you pinpoint a Bolshevik style revolutionary mentality when "following the money" points towards people in G800 jets and penthouses in the Burj Khalifa?
