Actually started with Reagan. The greatness of Reagan is a myth.

The Reagan economy was a one-hit wonder. Yes, there was a boom in the mid-1980s, as the economy recovered from a severe recession. But while the rich got much richer, there was little sustained economic improvement for most Americans. By the late 1980s, middle-class incomes were barely higher than they had been a decade before — and the poverty rate had actually risen.

Reagan was by far the most overrated man in American history.

dont you know it, reagan was good, but not as good as people give him credit for.

but truly the road to doom was laid down by FDR and his socialist politicies of the 1930's.

Green Car Congress: GM Cancels the HUMMER H1
I would agree that Hummer has become somewhat of a status symbol for most purchasers. But believe it or not, people do use those "other monster SUVs" for legitimate reasons. Just because it gets your panties in a twist and you can't easily get into it in your high-heels doesn't mean that others aren't using it for what it's made for. People like you just like to ride the "green" bandwagon. Unfortunately, it makes you look like the Wal-mart version of Ralph Nader. Why don't you find a real issue to get upset over?

Now here's a really affordable safe suv for you, except you'll have to teach your wife and children how to climb a step ladder.

hey monkey, why do you keep bringing up carter in most of your posts? have you ever gotten over anything at all? just wondering, not an attack on you personally, but, when things don't always go your way, you seem to blame someone else.

I do not get the part about a hummer being a status symbol. The only status it represents to me when I see one is someone trying real hard to make up for some type of inadequacy...physical or emotional. Seriously, there is something very idiotic and circus like seeing one of those things on the streets. I was under the impression that they were really made for the military, which makes it senseless to offer them for sale to the general public. Come to think of it, I suppose the Hummer drivers would be the ones to shop at a Walmart.

After watching a video clip yesterday on CNN, it is obvious that the assembly line pounded out too many hummers.

In the video clip were taliban militia men driving a hummer which was taken in a skirmish with pakistan troops. That's what we really needed, for our manufactured American arms and vehicles to fall into the wrong hands.

Seems auto/vehicle manufacturers have no scruples about allowing American made Military vehicles made public.

As for me, I see the hummer as more of a morphodite vehicle. I would love to see a hummer negotiate some of the trails we go on with our jeep liberty. Why? the hummer is much too wide for most forest and desert trails, and the wheelbase is much too long, it can get hung up going thru some deep washes and arroyos where we 4 wheel. they might be well suited more for flat desert terrain, but are absolutely worthless on narrow trails.

So, while ford, gm, and chrysler make vehicles which are for the backwoods or slim desert trails, I failed to see the need for people to own a hummer. Every hummer I've ever seen here in the states runs on asphalt. If soccer moms want to drive something large, there are other big gas guzzelers, with just as much equipment adorned as hummers. All a hummer is? a big toy.

You know what they say, the difference between men and boys, is the price of their toys.

This is the land of the free. Drive what you want. I personally do not care what some one drives that is like me telling some one what to eat at a fast food joint because they weight to much.I believe people look for something to get upset about.
