Presidential Powers During Wartime
I remember hearing once that if the US has formally declared war, the president in power at the time has the authority to remain in office until the war is declared over. I know that, historically, no president has ever lost a re-election bid during wartime, but what if it's at the end of the second term, such as Bush currently, or Clinton back in '99? Does anyone know if this is true? I can't find anything about it online.

There is no re-election. There is no election if that happened. Bush would stay as President as long as there was a war "for the good of the country".
It's called Directive 51.

But the chances of a president ding this is so remote that it hardly bears mentioning. It would probably have to be WWIII and battlefields here in this country.

If a President (any party) has to stay in office for the "good of the country" and there's no armed fighters with uniforms attacking on US soil, then you know it's time to leave the country.

You are so right about that. I have heard that in Washington D.C., this war is known as "The Long War".

In certain corporate offices, it's known as "the make-a-killing" war.
