Lightbulb Iraq tells US troops to stay inside their barracks.

Let's go one better and bring all US troops back to America. Let the Iraqis sort out their issues among themselves instead of us trying to figure which side would be best for us to ally with.

I will happily THIRD that motion!

The war was won years ago, let the slacker Iraqis fight for their own peace.

Wow!!! Common Sense and the right thing to do. Now if we could only get the government to have both those qualities we would be doing ok.

Sounds to me like they are finally stepping up to the plate and are willing to take on more responsibilities. Won't be long now.

One thing that bothers me. All the troups in a small confined area? Remember Pearl Harbor when our entire Pacific Fleet was in one small confined area?

I can understand back to their compounds because there are thousands of them. But I hope they don't try and consolodate those into a few and then centrally locate. One bomb, gone.

No, the troops are WELL dispersed - there are some .... "major" fortified bases - but, there is little consolidation of personel.

This is hardly surprising....many residents of many "military towns" right here in the US, after a rough weekend, wish they could confine the troops to their barracks...

Seriously, though, I'd have to go along with most othere posters. Put the troops 'back in the barracks', and tell them to start packing. Then put them 'back in their country' (The USA), and let the Iraqis deal with the situation in the way they decide, and take the responsibility.

We'll be hated and criticized, of course...just like we would be, had we never gone there, or if we stayed another 15 years. You can't "make" anyone like Classical Music....you can't "make" anyone like Broccoli....and you can't "make" anyone accept democracy. People will do these things when they're ready.

You cannot make the Iraqis like classical music. Or any music for that matter. Music is a "sin".

Well, of course, Iraq is a pretty secular nation, not 'sticklers' for strict Islamic law. And of COURSE they have music. But it's a LONG way from being anywhere near the level of trust within society that's needed to make democracy feasible, unless it's imposed at gunpoint....

"Music is a sin"?.....OK, in some quarters maybe it is....and apparently, so is democracy. In much of the world, people don't want their leaders "nice", they want them MEAN. It takes a rough, tough, ruthless "S.O.B." to protect his people against 'the others' in society. As long as MY "mean SOB" is able to keep YOUR "mean SOB" in check, what do I need with democracy?
It takes centuries for a diverse society to begin to comprehend something like democracy, and why it isn't 'wimpy'. In most of the world, 'nice guys' really DO 'finish last'....

I guess societies are like neighborhoods. In an affluent neighborhood, one's dog is a "Good boy....yes, he's SUCH a good boy....aren't you, sweetie? Aren't you a good boy?"....while in POOR neighborhoods, the most coveted dog is a "BAAAAD boy.....ain'tcha boy? You're a BAD BOY !! Turn around, boy, and show the man your scars....He's a BAAAD boy, yes sir !!"

Rich affluent societies have "good" dogs and "nice" leaders....Poor. 'tough' societies have "Bad" dogs, and "ruthless" leaders. And that's they way they LIKE 'em......

(WARNING. The preceding post contains personal opinion, sarcasm, and certain liberties with the truth. Readers easily offended should ignore this post. Thank you).....
