I'm not sure if this belongs in this forum or not, but it ticked me off that Clinton is using my graduation as an attempt to make a political stance. I mean, is it really necessary to hamper a day intended to celebrate student achievement to make a statement? I wasn't aware that Clinton was still running for office...

abc7.com: Bill Clinton cancels commencement speech at UCLA 6/10/08 (broken link)
The former president nixed his scheduled appearance at the Los Angeles campus Friday because of an ongoing labor dispute at the University of California. Contract talks have sputtered for months between UC and members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. Clinton's office said last month he wouldn't appear unless a contract was settled. UCLA announced Tuesday Clinton backed out.
Vice Provost Judith Smith said in a statement it's "unfortunate" that union activities affected the event. UCLA Chancellor Gene Block will deliver keynote remarks to approximately 4,000 graduating seniors.

what political stance? when there is a labor dispute, many public officials will stay away so as to not "get in the middle".
you seem not to have a problem with bill being a speaker, but then whine that he's allegedly using your day for his own politics? bull.....it's YOU who is using your day to take a cheap political shot at bill clinton.
i doubt you have ever worked or been near any labor dispute, being in college for the past 4 years, but you should at least try to educate yourself on labor issues.
Get used to it. There aint a politician alive, certainly no Democrat, that gives a hoot about anything but appearances.
I am trying to understand what you mean by your statement. He obviously has feelings about the situation, therefore, he has declined speaking. If it only were for appearances, I believe he would have still attended.
As indicated by the OP, his office had indicated that he would not appear unless this situation was settled. Evidently, it has not been settled and Mr. Clinton is keeping his word.
Graduation ceremonies are the common forum now for the speaker of the day to foist his/her political agenda. I was recently at a university graduation and it was Bash Bush day amongst ALL the speakers, very sad indeed. Very little support or encouragement for students going out into the world on their own. I saw a number of parents walking out very disgusted by this hijacking of their child's graduation ceremony. The hapless little graduates (socialists in the making) appeared, however, very excited and clapping gleefully, giving standing ovation to these usurpers on their day. Sign of the times.
The more socialists the better. When there are enough of us we will be the Magistrate and be able to wrest control of our fate from the capitalists that currently own us.
In a socialist construct, it is only the elite few who have "control" over the fate of the masses. But I do believe history is about to repeat itself (once again) and to our detriment.
Did They Look For Him In The Cheerleaders' Locker Room?
Hahahahhahahahahaha!!
