Very briefly, my persistent image of a liberal is like that of an idealistic teenager....lots of ideas, lots of compassion, but little practical notion of who will be "paying for" all this. Conservatives, by the same token, are much like "grumpy" middle-aged adults...few illusions, lots of cynicism. having "outgrown" the liberal stuff.

Note that BOTH positions have merit, and personally I find myself having both outlooks, on different subjects.

I DO tend to be somewhat conservative in social and immigration issues...not because I'm "mean", but because to me, it won't work, unless everyone takes lots of personal responsibility. It would be "nice" if we could provide a place for anyone who wanted to come here....but, in a practical sense, it's just not possible to do so. Conservatives "see" this...liberals, (apparently) don't.

The liberal position to ME, in social issues, is that NOBODY should have to suffer at ALL...that everyone has FULL RIGHTS, and that NO ONE should have the right to "judge" anyone else, and everyone has the inalienable right to a full and happy life, with or without any personal responsibility to 'back it up". Enormously appealing, but once again, fails to speak about who's "responsible" for all this.

I can't remember the writer who came up with the "gem" that states something to the effect that, "If you're 18 years old, and a conservative, that's sad....and if you're 50 years old, and a liberal, that's even sadder".....perhaps Norman Mailer (?)...

A liberal activist is likely to be gay, Jewish, African American or a college student.
Typical liberal voter is likely to be African American.
Typical liberal donor is likely to be Jewish.
Typical liberal fanatic is likely to be a college student.

The Democratic Party cards in the US political game:
- African Americans and gays go to vote (80%+ of their votes for Democrats).
- College students and journalists do the propaganda (Behind 80%+ of national media outlets, prominent universities).
- American Jews bring the money (80%+ of the Democratic Party prominent donors).

Stereotyped, simplified, don't scream.

I could write a similar political profile of the other camp but the topic says "describe liberal".

I'm an older white woman who is liberal through and through.
Most people I know in my age group are flaming liberals, too.

I guess your generalization is off mark.

Another way of saying it is, I think, to rob Peter to support Paul.

Which, in the long run, keeps Peter from doing what he might otherwise do to help Paul. And meanwhile, Paul becomes dependent on Peter. All the time, those who manage this re-arrangement feel good about themselves, and keep their own money, and gain power.

They support socialist, communist, AND European socialist views? There are very few socialist countries in the world to begin with, and those ones you mentioned are quite different from each other. I've not heard anybody who actually supports a communist view.

Whiny crybabies that want some of the people to work & pay for those that dont.
Control freaks that want to regulate every aspect of peoples lives with no respect for the individual as intended by the founders.
I could go on & on but basically I feel the average liberal hasn't a clue about individual responsibility, liberty or freedom.

The exact opposite of whatever crap a conservative describes them as. I've never spotted the species they describe, and I've looked! Their binoculars must be scratched.

A liberal is someone that wants to solve other peoples problems, with your money.

Not to mention they are thieves for stealing the name liberals from what we call libertarians today.
