But I personally would welcome CA leaving the union...as long as a fence is built along the newly formed border.

So you'd enjoy paying more for food in the form of tariffs since CA supplies roughly half the US' food and dairy? Yeah, that's right... California's top industry is agriculture. The entertainment industry isn't even a radar blip. I suppose you'd love the tax increases as you'd lose the tens of billions of tax dollars that support the nation's infrastructure too.
We'd certainly enjoy not being forced by the Federal government to provide food, housing, and free health care for invaders from the south. Our prop 186 was disallowed by the feds because of the 14th amendment. Since that would no longer apply, we'd enjoy billions more instead of p**sing it away.
I have a lot of problems with CA these days but I at least recognize the fact that it's a lot more valuable to the Union than the Union is to it. If CA were to break off, it could more than afford a fence and would surely build one.

why do you think it is that large, if you took out all the federal goverment contracts, and all the military bases you would probably see your number drop by about 100 or 200 places. then how large are you?

Uhm, did you read the part about tariffs? Californians want no part of NAFTA and the US of A is pretty famous for it's tariffs. It was tariffs that caused South Carolina to secede way back when. California would be happy to sell food to the rest of the US but it'll cost the people more because of US imposed tariffs.
I'm pretty fed up with CA myself and am forming an exit strategy. I'm originally from Texas so on that score you're preaching to the choir. BTW, the correct spelling is The Peoples Republik of Khalifornia.
You can like or dislike CA all you want but to deny it's financial importance is ridiculous. Yes some crazy stuff goes on here but so does nearly 2 Trillion dollars worth of commerce a year. CA also seems to get blamed for a lot of craziness that actually originates over on the east coast. CA also pays considerably more to the federal government than it receives. Like it or not, the USA benefits more from CA than CA benefits from the USA. California may have it's share of weirdness but it pays way more than it's share. Cut out the income from CA and you'll be looking at some serious spending cuts to services in the other 49 as well as tax hikes. California's economy is compared to countries, not states. According to the CIA fact book, California is the 10th largest economy on the planet. That's a serious financial powerhouse. Like it or lump it, them's the facts.
