Good point. The European women broadcasters dress differently than American women broadcasters, yet very tastefully. In America, such broadcasters may cause an outrage (and plummeting ratings) among the 'decent', wholesome, prudish viewers.

Oh for heaven sake. Did it ever occur to some of you that some people just have an sense of dignity and high self-esteem and do not care to have their entire life reduced to one long hunt for a roll in the hay? Sex is fine but it is just a part of life and maybe if people kept it in perspective they would not lose so much of themselves that they end up knowing nothing about themselves except what positions they most like.

I think it depends on where you live in America. The United States is way too diverse to be defined one way especially in terms of sexuality. If you live in a small town in the Bible Belt or a tiny kid-friendly suburb, then yes, people where you live are probably sexually repressed. But cities like Miami aren't the least bit sexually repressed. Most of the porn industry is centered around Miami. Maybe because Miami is like a Latin American city in Florida. Even places outside of South Florida aren't exactly repressed. I remember when I was growing up as a kid in San Francisco in the 80's, there were sex shops with hardcore porn pasted in the windows of these places for everybody walking by to look at!

I live outside of DC which has been rated as one of the most sexually active cities in America according to a few polls. I have had random women grab my member out of the blue or beg me to take them home in DC nightclubs on a few occasions. However, I am opposed to random one night stands because with DC's high sexuality comes one of the nation's highest STD rates.

10 Most Sexually Active Cities in America

My theory is that sexuality has become something secondary in American society. Generally speaking, America has the highest standard of living in the world. Even though both men and women are programmed to reproduce once they hit puberty, it doesn't work out that way for many people in modern American society. Women have always been genetically programmed to seek security in a mate before having sex. For a man, developing this type of security in a comfortable standard of living in America is not easy work. Therefore, sex is something that is quite expensive in American society in many circles. As a result, many American men are completely deprived of something that is free in many other places around the globe. This is the reason why many American men are addicted to strip clubs and internet porn. This is also the reason why DC residents are so sexually active because DC has the highest concentration of college educated people of any city and is one of the highest income places in the country for educated professionals. In fact, DC has the highest median income salaries of any major city in the country as of this year. Many educated, good job having people in DC can simply afford to f*ck at abandon. Money = sex in America. Sad but true.

However, this obviously is not the case for many other Americans. I have noticed many people from lower socio-economic backgrounds and poorer areas tend to be more promiscuous than people from middle income and conservative suburban areas and backgrounds. This is the reason why AIDS and other STD rates are so high in impoverished areas. For instance, the poor secluded remote areas of DC in the Northeast and Southeast sections of the city have the highest AIDS rate in the country.

Its still at heart a Puritan country.

What's wrong with being sexually repressed? It just means you have some standards. I think doing anything with anyone on two legs just because you can is disgusting.

I'd disagree. Most of our laws are written with a huge Puritan bias, particularly those concerning sexuality. Remember when rapists were executed? I'm not saying I have an opinion on whether they should be or not... there IS a clear bias towards puritanism reflected in these laws though. Puritanism in America at this point is more subconscious than anything. All of the "guilty by association/inaction" rhetoric is straight out of the 1700's.
