I think this would crush both candidates. the election results would be like 200-217. I think that only around 417 people would pass a basic test. not sure who would win. I have no problem with a 5 question quiz about the issues before your vote is accepted. but the whiners would complain.

It would be a great idea, but would never work, because the left would scream that it discriminates againts the poor and less educated, minorities and illegals, so they would be given, a seperate test, one that just has a few basic questions, do you know your name? do you know how to spell D E M O C R A T?

(my bolding)

Well yeah that's the whole point. If you don't know the basics of how government/the world works then how are you qualified to affect it?

It shouldn't be an exhaustive two-hour test, but more like a high school civics class thing. Basic political science, economics, etc.

Wow- thanks for your insight. A brilliant idea to make sure people who vote, know what they are voting for, is raised and you have this in depth, well thought out response.

He may be concerned about the motives of those who would presume to define and perhaps clarify "what they are voting for" and what the motives of those definers and clarifiers might be.

I know I would be.

I don't think thats a good idea, the exception is that most politicians would not be able to vote, I believe even the dumbest American is smarter than the government. What test could determine that a person is smart enough to vote? So you take the small percentage of people that do vote eliminate half of those and how would that be good?
I feel people should be given more info on the issuses that affect them and be encouraged to vote
