WESTPORT, Conn. — A 12-year-old Westport girl has been charged with distributing a nude photo of a classmate to fellow students.
The investigation began on May 12 when the incident was reported to Westport police after word circulated throughout Coleytown Middle School that a nude snapshot was taken during a video chat and distributed to others.

The photo was taken "during a video chat"! Westport, CT isn't exactly a "Rust Belt" coal town! Where the hell were the parents at while their children were taking nude photos during a video chat! This and other occurrences of self-made child pornography needs some kind of oversight, if not by the parents who abdicate their responsibilities as parents, then by the owners and operators of web sites/chat rooms/Internet Service Providers, otherwise, there is going to be China style censoring of the Internet in the US!

If it were in a "Rust Belt" town would you have been less surprised?? Doesn't surprise me a bit that it comes from a town where both parents are probably commuting 1.5 hours one way into NYC to work and more than likely get home just in time to watch the late news and barely even see their kids.

nothing like video chatting in the nude, what would you expect to happen, parents need to take these things away from their children. I have a freind who caught his 12 year old daughter dancing nude infront of her web cam, he didn't even take it away, sheesh, parents are dumber than the kids.

If ever kid sending out nude photos were put in the justice system, we would have no one left in school. It's the cool thing to do today, they are all doing it. OK, maybe not all, just most, but it is a very populat pastime with the young today. With ever kid having a camera phone and a digital camera, it's easy to do. Go into some of these web sites and it will shock you.
That sweet little kid at your dinner table is a different person when she/he are with their friends.

I would be less attracted to this story if it occurred in an inner city neighborhood where "street rules" dictate survival of the fittest! The fact that this took place in an upper middle class area is what brought my attention to this story! Your observations about "latchkey children" due to both parents working out of the house is spot on! That's exactly how these children were able to participate in a nude video chat, no adult supervision at home!

Wouldn't matter if the parents were home. The kids would stay locked up in their room and the parents would be too naive to ever think their kid would do anything like that.

Tell ya what. Considering this is in the Rust Belt area and if my kid was involved, I'd surly take my rusty belt to his/her rusty behind. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh trust me, it would "end" soon.

Over this I think the kids are only gonna learn to not to let just anybody see the nude pictures they make.

That is why they make them, so others can see.

Problem is they are either too stupid, not mature enough, arrogant, naive or any combination to think other people won't share the photos.

And it comes back to, why in the heck does someone at that age feel motivated to take a nude photo of themselves in the first place?

Talk about a sex obessessed generation.
