There are two versions of the story out now. One says he jumped the fences to get his hat; the other says he and his cousin jumped it to take a short cut. Either way it was stupid.
The cousin one makes less sense then the hat one. Who would jump two very high fences as a short cut?
Nature provides the final penalty for stupidity. I send my sincere condolences to the family.
I ran a small amusement park as a kid and had to be vigilant about some of the incredibly stupid things kids (and their parents) could do. Not that I am innocent of making some really dumb decisions. The biggest by far was volunteering for service in ‘Nam when I didn’t have to go. The next dumbest was climbing down a rock chimney on the side of the little Grand Canyon to retrieve a pair of sunglasses. I am one very lucky SOB to I have survived myself for this long.

well almost all of the news stories say that someone climbed the fence with him - who would jump two very high fences to get someone else's hat? I can only imagine the amount of guilt his cousin must be feeling; I'm sure at some point someone has said or will say "why didn't you stop him?".
clearly the fence wasnt high enough. first a tiger, now this
Two entirely different situations. This was clearly the kid's fault, the San Francisco zoo tiger mauling was completely and totally the fault of the zoo. The San Francisco kid was a victim.
I am actually appalled at some of the statements that have been made on this thread! While I do not think Six Flags is in any way at fault here, a person DIED! He was somone's son, grandson, nephew, etc. His choice was a stupid one and he paid the price for that choice. Black, white, green, or yellow....his race had nothing to do with it. Kids are not personal responsibility anymore. If anyone is at fault, it's his family for not teaching him to respect the signs that are there to keep people out of dangerous areas. But to stoop to making fun of someone who was decapitated in front of a lot of people who just came to have fun at Six Flags? I hope they don't sue but it's almost inevitable. I hope they don't win and hold them responsible for that choice. But please stop with the crass jokes about this boy's death. It really says a lot about a person when they can joke about something so horrible.

I agree - I'm assuming somewhere down the line a lawsuit will come up. Already the media is trying to connect this story with every other theme park death or injury I also think the family is responsible - even at 17 my son wouldn't be walking around a theme park by himself. If you don't want to stay with me, that's fine but out of a group of 40 people you'd better find somebody to hang out with aside from your cousin.
The sign clearly stated "Do Not Enter." Much to the dismay of most, it does not say, "Come over here, we have fluffy bunnies and kittens for all~!"
He did something rather stupid and lost his life over it. The family has no real right to sue because there were signs to tell him not to. What do people expect? Armed guards scanning the perimeter of the fence at all times?

but both people who died were idiots, and they paid the price
