Oh, so you are saying then that it is OK that terrorism continues throughout the world as long as it doesn't affect us?
You are trying to twist this off topic, try to stay focused, the original point of the post was that only a few years ago, the U.S. and Europe were being victimized on a regular basis by terrorists. People were afraid, which meant we were loosing. Today people are not afraid. We are not being victimized, therefore we are winning. What is happening in the rest of the world, while important, is less important that what happens here. One of the simple truths in life is that you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else.
When was the US being victimized on a regular basis by terrorists? We've had about a thousand more US soldiers victimized by terrorists, or insurgents, in Iraq than were killed in 9/11.

OK, I'm focusing. I see the point you are trying to make. However, I don't agree with your logic and I still think it's a bit selfish.

1. Iraq. IMO we're getting along quite well in Iraq lately. The Sunni's are coming on-board and Iraq is moving more towards normalcy, but a long way to go. The Iraqi Army seems to be standing up quite well these days. Overall Rating: "B"
2. Afghanistan. We may be beating Al Queda there, but the Taliban seems to control much of the country and be a big player in the poppy/heroin trade. Lots of violence, need more troops there. Overall Rating: C-
3. Pakistan. Al Queda and the Taliban have made a home in certain parts and seem to control many remote areas. The government of Pakistan needs to vigorously attack those elements in all areas, or risk being toppled. Overall Rating: D-
4. Iran. Totally beyond our control to change their course, short of an attack on their nuclear efforts and Revolutionary Guard forces. A major state sponsor of terrorism and sending arms and fighters to Iraq. Overall Rating. F
Grand Score for that part of the world: D
Need lots of help with that last item, like a joint NATO / Israeli strike, or a total embargo on all trade and finance with Iran.
Winning the war on terrorism--how ignorant. There is no winning over a criminal act which can be perpetrated by a nutjob in a basement or a garage.
There are many interpretations of "winning". Some people hold the view that bringing a nation to it's knees financially is not "winning." Instead it creates citizen unrest and causes the nation to become much more vulnerable in many many aspects.
The special interests and many investors find war acceptable to enrich themselves at the expense of others and to further widen the gap between the haves and have nots.
The 2006 estimates I have seen lists the TOTAL deaths at approx. 654,965 people. It shows the cost to the US economy at 3 trillion.
Is this what a rational person would describe as "winning the war on terrorism"?
Hmmm oh did they find Osama? We can't find a 6'5" arab attached to a dialysis machine in Pakistan and we are to believe we are winning a war on terror. And the next bill of goods is the desperate need for us to attack Iran. Those WMD's are such a threat. hmm where is the interest in the weapons N Korea has? We like to flex our muscles like the school yard bully but don't seem to want to deal with the most threatening country or terrorist. Catch Osama then get back to me on winning the war of terror...
I think the terrorists are terrorizing us now with these high oil and gasoline prices and other inflation associated with it. Who knows how much oil money is being diverted to finance future terrorist plots?
Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. It is ridiculous argument to say you can not eliminate it and therefore should not continue to fight against it. If that were true then we should allow criminals to run free, and stop even trying to enforce the rules and laws which civilization depends on for it very existence.
The safety of our country our citizens and friends and allies requires constant work and maintenance, just like everything else in life.
but we go after criminals after they commit a crime, not before they do.And we go after who actually did the crime, not every Joe Blow ever associated with the criminal.
If we are going to try and change the fibric of a culture and think we can prop up Democracy where we decide there should be we will fail.We need to stop trying to change a culture and just retaliate when they do something to use and let them know that they better stay out of our way.

So... up until 9/11, only homegrown non-Muslim terrorist attacks in America since 1993?
