I think "gunlover" is right: there's NO reason for China to help any other country since there'd be NOTHING in it for them. So China probably DOES want Africa's resources.

Well duh they are not going to do stuff for free except, when they built the new building for the Africa union and built schools and roads that have nothing to do with Africa's resources.
You messed up in your first paragraph. Ghana is now a middle economy country and sub-Sahara Africa is the second fastest growing region with one of its largest countries in turmoil.
Wow a lot must have happened in the last 10 years then /sarcasm
Oh yes, they trimmed off three zeros off their currency and reprinted new money.
To stand out in the region that is ess FUBAR is not difficult with neighbours like Nigeria. There is huge mineral wealth there and sustaining a puppet govt to rape the land is cheaper than having folk go all independent and stuff that makes sense when you own wealth albeit in the soil.
I have actually been there a number of times. I have pics of what it looks like there, want me to post them?

But for some reasons many African hate them being there. From what I have been told from my business associate they would do business with anyone else given the chance. The chinese treat the people of Nigeria terribly, I cannot say if they do the same thing to other African citizens in their respective countries.
Botswana. It seems to be getting its act together and it's mostly "Black".
Botswana is ess a semi-desert region, not too many whites settled there and their population is not that big. I have not been there so have no personal opinion. I think there are still migrant workers from there to SA mines. I only passed through Botswana in 78 by train when I came to SA on holiday. The then Rhodesia Railways owned the line through Botswana and maintained it. It was also part of the old CA federation and used to be called Bechuanaland with Northern and Southern Rhodesia.
This pic circa 1968 travelling through Botswana.
