Some Houston residents are upset after Korans were left on the doorsteps of hundreds of homes in their neighborhood as part of a campaign to educate people about Islam.
So, Christians distribute Bibles, Jehovah Witnesses distribute "The Watchtower" and Muslims/Islamics distribute the Quaran, what's the big deal?
I don't see a problem with this. At least they are not at your doorstep asking to 'pray with you'
Yeah, that "can we pray with you" gig is a bit annoying! Several years ago, I had to threaten to call the police because the Jehovah Witnesses proselytizers (Is that the same as "prostituters"? ) would not get off my porch and stop ringing my doorbell!
Naw, the book doesn't look big enough to be a doorstop, but you can keep it in the car should you have to make an emergency pit stop along some dirt road to run off into the woods and...! It's the modern version of the Sears and Roebuck catalog for the outhouse!
I'd rather have a Koran left on my doorstep than have the Jehovah's Witnesses come by TWICE a week, every week, early in the morning to "rattle my gate" like they do around here. My dogs go crazy, they wake me up, and they're wasting their time. I'd much rather they leave their "material" and go on their way. Maybe a huge inverted cross in the yard would scare them away? Or would it just increase their fervor and determination?

If they're not being obnoxious or pushy, I've got no problems with people leaving their religious literature.
I'll either read it or toss it.
To tell the truth, if it was someone leaving a Koran, I'd probably want to talk to them since I don't know any Muslims that are that active in their spriritual lives. Like many who call themselves "Christian".
But some residents, like Greg and Sue Ann Pieri, said they feared the group is imposing its beliefs on non-Muslims and found the gesture offensive.
"If we went into a Muslim country and left a bible, we would be in prison and then decapitated a few years later,” said Sue Ann Pieri, who chose not to destroy the book like other neighbors did.
But I'm sure they'd have no problem if it was a Christian group leaving a Bible or a Chick tract. That wouldn't be "offensive" or "imposing beliefs." And I'll bet people wouldn't be "destroying" Bibles if they were left on doorsteps.
I thought we were in Iraq because we were so worried about those poor defenseless people under Saddam's iron fist. If we're so concerned about them, why wouldn't we also take an interest in their religion?
And is Sue Ann saying the people distributing these Korans should be decapitated? Or is she just trying to say her religion is superior?
Looks like this whole thing isn't doing much to promote tolerance.

However, Houston's Council on American-Islamic Relations President Tarick Hussein said although his organization did not partake in distributing the books, he believes that the Muslims behind the distribution only wanted to educate non-Muslims about the religion.
OMG! Did you see that? His last name is Hussein! Yes, Hussein! Now, I don't want to draw any special attention to that. I mean, it is his last name, and I'm merely pointing it out. But it's "Hussein." Not that I'm trying to draw any parallels. But it's "Hussein." Yeah. Hussein.
